Overall it’s a great mechanical keyboard with good build quality and nice light effects. Keys are great! The only gripe I still have with it after a year is that it’s really hard to operate the arrows properly by feel. My solution was to 3D print some replacement caps so I can find the arrow keys easier. If I had the choice to buy a keyboard again I definitely would go towards a full layout one.

Been using this board since July 2020. Replaced my OG Logitech Orion G910 Orion Spark. Much better typing experience on the K4 than the logi. Standard keycaps abound here. Only real downside for me is the lack of dedicated media controls, but that is the price you pay for a smaller footprint. Like others have said, it is rather tall. A wrist rest is almost required. Unless you type like you’re supposed to with your wrists elevated. All in all, a great buy. Get you a wrist rest, some o-rings and new keycaps and you will have a board for the ages!

This is a really great keyboard. It is more compact than a full size 101 key keyboard (see pic). I thought I would have trouble adapting to the feel of typing on this keyboard. But, alas, I had no problem typing and was not slowed down at all. I only had to adjust as to where the home/end/pgup/pgdn and del keys were but that did not take long. I washing a Macally wired keyboard (in pic) but like this one much better. The fact that you can turn on or ff the backlight on the keys is great for saving battery life. And you can even change the color of the backlighting ! I bought the aluminum case with the brown keys use it on a Mac. Keychron provides Windows keys if you have a PC. A toggle switch on the side switches between Mac or Windows. I bought this from go-keyboard.com because the Keychron return policy didn’t sound all that great to me. And we all know that go-keyboard.com is fantastic for returns. If I ended up hating the keyboard, I would have no problem returning it. I am very surprised at the quality and features of this keyboard.

Overall I like the feel of the keyboard and think it has good construction. I was looking for a wireless keyboard that had brown switches to replace my Das Keyboard w/ Blue Cherry. I only use this keyboard for work which it does a great job, but can’t speak to it’s gaming abilities. The price point was nice and don’t feel I overpaid. I have had no issues with the Bluetooth connection. There is a power save mode so it will disconnect intermittently throughout the day, but quickly re-connects. The battery lasts about 10 work days, which is less than I would like, but is fairly easy to recharge with the usb-c connector. The battery life is mostly likely due to my usage of the keyboard LEDs. There are quite a few built in light programs built in, they cycle using a key in the top right of the keyboard. Because of the compact size there are a couple of areas that I am finding myself relearning while typing. The zero key on the 10-key is smaller because the up-arrow key takes up the area that once comprised of half the zero key. This takes getting used to when I use the 10-key. Also finding the arrow keys while typing, without looking is still a struggle. On a full size keyboard they are by themselves and I can find them easily. The biggest complaint I have is with the height of the keyboard. I would say it is about 7mm higher than my Das Keyboad. Which doesn’t sound like a lot, but it did give the sort of negative feel to the keyboard at first. Because the height is higher than normal keyboards a regular wrist pad still isn’t flush with the keyboard. I had to have a friend create a wedge with his 3D printer to make the wrist pad flush. I did not purchase the Keychron wrist pad, I purchased a wooden wrist pad off go-keyboard.com. I don’t know if the wrist pad for keychron is a different height. The Gatreon Brown switches feel real good and I am very happy with them. I have not used Cherry Browns, but was told my someone who does that they feel very similar. I still enjoy the keyboard and will not be returning it, but if Keychron was to release a keyboard resolving the height I would be sure to purchase it.

I went with the gateron reds. My precious keyboard was a Razer Blackwidow from 2014. I believe they had cherry reds, but those keys are more clicky and the the keyboard is a full size one. I was looking for a board that could be used for gaming but had a smaller profile for my desk. I also prefer to keep the number pad and TKL’s sacrifice that. I would say this keyboard is near perfect. The Gateron Reds offer the the linear feel I prefer and are quiet enough that I don’t bother my girlfriend at all. The RGB feature is beautiful and shines through the keys well enough that I can read the keys in a dark setting. Personally, I wish Keychron had designed this board more ergonomically. It is THICK. You absolutely need a wrist rest unless you prefer to hover over your board. Not a big deal, but something to consider before buying. I know Keychron K8 deals with this a bit, but we’ll have to wait and see if they bring that adjustment to the K4. I’m deducting a start because the ALT came cracked… not a big deal, but this made me aware of how fragile the ABS keys are. I’m planning on switching the key caps out for PBT ones down the line though, so I’m not that bothered. The aluminum frame is confidence inspiring though and adds a great deal of rigidity to the board. Overall, great board, at a reasonable price (seriously!). I do enjoy my Blackwidow and I’ve enjoyed my brothers Blackwidow tournament edition keyboard, but the price tags can be a bit much for some of these other gaming keyboards. I docked star because I the windows and alt keys are programmed incorrectly? 4 months after the s key stopped working. I wrote a 5-star review when I just got it (which I left for reference “see second paragraph”) this is my first mechanical keyboard and I love how the keyboard felt, the battery is great and I was able to quicky switch between my work laptop and my personal. However, after 4 months of light use they s key switch stopped working. I thought to change the key but discovered the keys are not hot-swappable. *Original review when I started using the keyboard* I got the Gateron Brown. The keyboard is really easy to setup. Easy to change between multiple devices. Love the sound and light adjustable settings. I used it to work and as my personal regular use and the battery lasts me for a while. The keyboard does need a hand rest. Highly recommend it!!

The blue switches in this keyboard are fabulous and the quality is extreme. The main issue here is the keyboard’s height! It stands 1.5in (3.8cm) above the surface, which makes it uncomfortable when typing. I ordered a wrist rest for it (another ~$15 to the cost) and I’ll update this review when I receive it.

I took a shot on the K4 after reading all the great reviews and was honestly confused when I received it… I was going to use it primarily for typing in MS Word (basic typing, roughly 80wpm, no gaming) and needed the number pad to be able input numbers for my job. This seemed like a great first mechanical keyboard for a newbie with a lot of cool features so I was convinced. Unfortunately it is much nicer to look at than it is to use, and that’s after I really tried to like it and give it a chance. I returned it after trying it for a couple days due to the following issues. These were apparent as soon as I got it but I really tried to give it a chance since I found the design so asthetically pleasing. 1. It is super tall: My relatively large hands (can grip a basketball easily in each) had trouble getting comfortable on the keyboard due to its height. I bought a wrist rest to fix this and was still not comfortable due to #2. Long key travel and small/narrow switches didn’t really help. I guess I’m used to the magic keyboard with larger, square shaped keys/caps and less of a gap between them. 2. The top row (Q through P) feels too far away from the home row and it feels like you really have to stretch your outter fingers to reach that upper row. I read about this but thought I’d be fine due to my larger hands. That was not the case. This could be fixed by giving it more of a curved shape to help with the reach. I didn’t really get to enjoy the switches enough to provide a real opinion on them because the fit issue was really bothering me. I went into this thinking that my larger hands would save me and I’m writing this to warn others that it didn’t (for me of course, everyone is different).

Really badly design I have to say.. the arrow keys are way too close to the other keys and their is no separation I keep on hitting them accidentally and the size of the keyboard feels really small so it produces a lot of typos. And it’s ergonomically bad as well I worked with it for few days and I already get pain arms for the weird position you have to work with this key board.

Excellent keyboard, undoubtedly the finest wireless mech board available at this price. As others mention, the keyboard is a little taller than others, but it doesn’t bother me at all. You can easily use a strip of foam padding, or otherwise change your setup around to make it feel more normal.

What I really love about this keyboard is the materials. The aluminum frame is sturdy but not aggressively industrial-looking. The keycaps themselves are made out of a really nice, subtly textured plastic that kind of feels like ceramic. The colors blend in well with the browns and blacks of a typical desk setup.

Would highly recommend. Don’t listen to Wirecutter and others who say there are no good cheap bluetooth mech boards – get this one.

I’m sure you are here also because you thought you found the perfect wireless Bluetooth mechanical keyboard. I will say this keyboard is good… when and if it works. What’s worse is the support (almost non existent) from Keychron is hands down the worst which is shocking in a time where online reviews and reputation is everything. Every 1-2 days, while using the keyboard wirelessly, the Bluetooth connection will cutout. When attempting to reconnect, it will fail to reconnect. I have to revert to using it wired until it randomly decides to work again in a day or so wirelessly. It will lose all my key mappings every 1-2 days also. This is particularly annoying because I have a Mac and have to every time remap the keys so it’s Mac format from Windows. I emailed customer support 3 times to ask for support or guidance. I FINALLY got a response which was curt and barely apologetic after 2 whopping weeks of my 3 emails. Honestly, hopefully my review can steer some of you away from the headache and disappointment of this pricey keyboard. Find a company that actually has an existing customer support and backing of their product instead.
