The K5 SE designed to boost your productivity yet meets your desktop aesthetics perfectly.

- Hot-swappable: You can easily hot-swap every low-profile Keychron optical switch without soldering to customize your typing experience on the K5 SE (*This keyboard is NOT compatible with any conventional MX style mechanical switch). The redesigned low-profile red optical switch is 40% slimmer than conventional or normal profile switches with a shorter pre-travel and total travel distance that triggers an input and early tactile feedback faster than conventional/normal-profile mechanical switches.
- Reinforced Body: Engineered with reinforced aluminum top case plus SGCC galvanized steel plate is added to the plastic bottom frame, making the K5 SE one of the thinnest yet durable mechanical keyboards on the market with stable wireless transmission capability. Two level adjustable feet makes the K5 SE more comfortable to type on.

Wanted to like this keyboard. Spotty bluetooth from Day 1, necessary to tie in with cable instead. After firmware update (seeking to improve spotty btooth) the thing is now a brick. When I connect with a cable it sends random rapid inputs and opens dozens of programs, websites, etc etc. Like a virus… avoid.
Keychron Offered 20% rebate after 10 months for bricking the hardware (no fix, no replace). Ha.

I bought the K3 v2 prior. Wanted to go ahead and get one with a numpad for work.
Using Macs and laptops most my life, the low profile keycaps feel seamless to use.

I write a lot for work, and was switching from a full-height keyboard with brown optical switches. One of the things that bothered me about the brown switch, full-sized keys was the amount of travel my fingers had to make (I type around 100-120wpm). Thought going with the reds would be the move, but they’re a little too sensitive for my er…aggressive…typing style.
Otherwise, this keyboard absolutely rocks. Swapping for some stiffer switches and I think I’ll be right as rain!

I’ve been using this keyboard for more than a year since I bought. I’ve never had a keyboard annoy me more than this one. It routinely disconnects from bluetooth at its own whim and fancy. Then, sometimes it refuses to connect no matter how long or how many times you depress any key. The only resort then is to enforce connection using fn key. In a world where mouse does not lose its movement detail despite optimizing the bluetooth connection, it is very disappointing to see a much larger device with much larger buffer capacity lose key stroke for alibi of optimized bluetooth connection and worse refuse to connect at all.
You should buy and use this keyboard, if you want to become extremely aware of how technology can intercede human productivity. The makers have sought to make you aware of lacunae of technology through deliberate effort. They have chosen cosmetics over productivity gains. For example, the keyboard routinely forgets the backlight setting and suddenly surprises you with a random dance of backlight right when you’re trying to focus. This keyboard works very hard to not get out of your way. It will offend your work just to remind you that you paid $$$ for the intervention.

I reset the keyboard. Now the left Option key permanently stops working. I tried to flash correct firmware, but I still can’t get the left option key working. Keychron sent me a new keyboard, but it’s an K8, not the low-profile K5 Se that I bought. I am very dissapointed.

Battery life is short. Doesn’t make it through a full work week. I have co-workers with other keyboards and they state that they don’t have to recharge for 3-4 weeks. Having a bluetooth keyboard isn’t as great as I thought it would be, Bluetooth doesn’t work until you are in windows, I didn’t think of that.
The keyword is quick to go into sleep mode. My mouse wakes up from sleep almost instantly. This keyboard takes a few seconds before it reconnects and starts working.
I like the look, I like the feel. I torn between keeping it and returning it.

For $100 this is not worth it. I can’t even request product support.
