   Truly a Best Buy. Wasn’t a great fit for me, I prefer a full keyboard, vice TKL, but with a couple of simple mods, this thing hits way above its weight class. Comparable to custom boards twice its cost out of the box, easily modded with hot swap switches, tools in the box, and a clean design and sound. Swapped for heaving switches and did some foam and tape mod and it was baller.

   The first thing you will notice about this keyboard is its weight. At around 6 pounds it sounds like it would be too much, but it has a quality feel to it. It seems extremely well made out of aluminum and steel and looks very stylish. It is fully customizable and you can tweak and map your key bindings to your hearts desire. The rgb lighting is always a nice added touch but this keyboard boasts south facing rgb which keeps potential distracting reflection out of your eyesight. Overall compared to other keyboards in this price range I am definitely impressed with this keyboard. Extremely satisfied.

   This is my go keyboard for justifiable reasons. Pros: – it’s built like a tank feels sturdy and built to last. – the overall is made of heavy duty aluminum which makes it both heavier than the other keyboard but also scream longevity. – the rgb lights offer multiple options, themes which are awesome – the volume wheel is built to last and feels premium – all tools are provided for easy mods and switch to other operating systems. I keep mine on the mac system since that is my primary os. – the usb type c cable provided is … premium ! – the clicking sound of each keys is pleasant and all keys are made to last. They feel very premium and responsive – the drivers from windows, mac and Linux are all installed without efforts and it just works ! Cons: – I wish it was also wireless. At this price range, I believe making it both wire and wireless should have been a must ! – each key doesn’t let the lights pass through, the rgb lights lit up the corners probably because those keys are made of a very durable material that doesn’t provide the ability to let light pass through. – it’s heavy .. I love that but some people wouldn’t cause it just makes it harder to Carry around and travel with. It’s pretty much just a desk keyboard Overall I’m satisfied with it but I really wish that it was also wireless and not just wired.

   I didn’t think going to a Q3 from a C2 would be that noticeable, but I was very wrong. The Q3 feels amazing with Gateron Brown. The box and packaging are first rate, make sure you check under the quick start sheet for the tools! They can be easy to miss. The typing experience is really fantastic overall. The keyboard weighs 4 lbs and doesn’t move around even on a wool desk pad. the overall profile is a little tall, but coming from a different and similar height Keychrom that wasn’t an issue. The case ping is very apparent, especially if you use it without some kind of mat. The force break mod is very easy and a couple os strips of gaffer tape took care of all it. Really recommend it for this board as it makes the strokes sound so much better. The Brown switches are slightly clicks and the video that was uploaded exaggerates that some. The space bar does sound a little different than the keys. Some people don’t like the knob. I personally like it a lot. I use it for volume and quick muting. Pressing the knob does take a little force and there is a bit of board flex when pressed. The feel of the knob is satisfying, with tactile clicks. The south lighting underlit keys make it compatible with a ton of different keycap choices and the switches are replaceable. The caps lock light does change when on but can be slightly hard to see depending on orientation. The things I would have liked to see on this keyboard. Better lighting options. The C series had a lot of lighten options like just lighting up just the key you hit for instance. The lighting options are fine with VIA, but more would be cool. I haven’t figured out if it is possible to get other lighting modes or how to do it. The cable tie and cable in general are fine, but a detachable cable would have been better at this price. I wish the knob was in the corner and not above backspace. This is a complete package for someone looking for an out-of-the-box built keyboard with everything you need to enter very satisfying mechanical keyboards. Everything is replaceable but honestly, for right now, it is a really fantastic typing experience. It feels SO much more satisfying than other plastic base boards and even other Keychron boards and you have to type on it to get how different it feels. Highly recommended.

   Hey everyone! I’m here to do a review on the Keychron Q3, my current favorite prebuilt keyboard. I will split up the review into small segments to better organize things. First things first: Packaging: The Keychron Q3 comes in a nice high-quality box and the package itself comes with a lot of essential tools like a keycap puller and a switch puller. While this is quite standard, it’s nice to see that they didn’t cheap out on it at the very least. The included USB-C to USB-A cable comes with a nice USB-A to USB-C adapter for those that need it, and the both the cable and adapter are of very high quality. Build Quality: The build quality on the Keychron Q3 is phenomenal, the frame is made of a nice aluminum and it feels very heavy and sturdy. The board itself uses a gasket-style mount, so there’s a bit of flex with the board, but that’s actually a good thing. The fit and finish of everything is just fantastic, even the keycaps feel premium. The Feel: I will say this outright, this is a very subjective part of the review, my preferences won’t always align with the preferences of others, so try to make sure you get whatever it is that suits your needs best. I got the Q3 with Gateron Pro Browns, and while I am not a fan of most brown switches at all, I will say that the Pro Browns are just fantastic. While still being a light tactile switch, it’s smoothness and apparent bump is actually very satisfying and I actually ended up keeping them in over the lubed Gateron Yellows I was going to swap them out for. The stabilizers are pre-lubed, and Keychron did a fantastic job at that too, the stabilizers are a tiny bit ping-y, but it’s not a huge issue, and can easily be fixed through a tiny bit of modding. The features: This board is completely compatible with QMK and VIA, so any of the features available through those are available here, this is a very modular board because of it. The hotswap terminals on this board are actually quite nice, and even though I’ve swapped the switches in here quite a few times trying to see what worked best, the board is fully functional. RGB lighting isn’t really a strong suit of this board, but it’s available and still looks nice. While it would’ve been nice to have a wireless variant of this board, it’s not a feature I’m really sad to be without. The Verdict: Do I recommend this keyboard? Yes. Definitely. Everything about this keyboard screams premium, this is by far the best prebuilt keyboard I have tried, and it’s even better than what you would get out of a lot of starter custom keyboards. The price is quite high, but I honestly think it’s a worthwhile investment.

   I got this keyboard to upgrade from my hyperx keyboard. It’s has some weight as it has a metal frame. It has a Windows and Mac mode that can be toggled by a switch near the power cable. The knob feels great to turn and push. I love how you can change the lighting mode with the app and also a lightbulb key on the keyboard. If you’re looking for a tkl hot swappable wired keyboard with leds then this is the keyboard for you.

    The feel and sound quality of the red keys are my go to. It’s heavy and sturdy, which is something that I really like comparing to other keyboards. Definitely worth while investment if you’re transitioning of a “cheaper” keyboard. I’ve had mine for over a year now and have had no issues! It comes with a cleaning kit and some extra keys as well. Last but not least the functionality of being able to adjust the brightness and lights on the keys are also sick.

    The Keychron Q3 is a very, very nice high end pre-built mechanical keyboard. Rubbing shoulders with the GMMK Pro and other, more bespoke keyboard kits, it features a world-class build – a huge, well-machined and very attractive aluminum case that’s absolutely stuffed with dampening foam wholly encapsulates the gasket-mounted floating plate, and the whole arrangement is topped with 87 very nice doubleshot PBT keycaps and, on this board, a fairly tactile, clickable knob that controls volume by default. This all works, feels, and looks great, as expected. The knob is a bit stiff to click, but this is the case with nearly all of the other keyboards I’ve gotten my hands on, so I can’t really blame Keychron for it. The board comes with Mac-style caps installed, but more standard Windows-style keycaps are included in the box (you can toggle between the behavior of a traditional Apple keyboard and a normal keyboard by flicking the switch at the back of the board, right next to the USB-C input), along with the very good Keychron keycap puller (the inclusion of this bad boy with every Keychron board has kept me from buying another for two years now), a nicely made cable (USB C to C, with a C to A adapter), and a handful of other tools, including everything you need to tear the keyboard apart – an allen key and a small screwdriver to remove the case and PCB. Unfortunately, the included switch puller is not a great one – it’s about identical to the one that came with the $35 Tecware Phantom, the type that sort of works but absolutely kills your fingers if you’re going to make it work 87 times in a row. On the other hand, I don’t think any keyboard comes with a significantly better design; if you want a good switch puller you’ll have to buy your own. Speaking of switches – In the pre-assembled models of all of the Q series keyboards, Keychron offers Gateron G Pro switches. According to the Gateron website, the G Pro switches have redesigned stems and upper housings with tighter tolerances to reduce wobble and come factory lubed. The G Pro Browns I have are certainly less wobbly than normal Gateron switches (they have hardly any x/y wobble at all – a far cry from normal Gaterons), and they also definitely feel lubed. The subtle bump that’s present enough on normal Gateron Browns is nearly gone – these feel nearly linear. As such, I don’t think I would recommend you buy this board with browns – get reds or prepare to replace the switches. Lubed browns don’t do the rest of the package justice, no matter how wobble-free they may be. The factory lube is decent on the switches and the board’s stabilizers are very well lubed – Frankly, I did not expect the spacebar to sound quite so good straight out of the box, but it produces a wonderful ‘thock’ with every press that’s positively bewitching and usually takes a good deal of effort to produce yourself with lube and some modifications to the stabilizers. Unfortunately, the RGB is south-facing, so it won’t shine through translucent keycaps properly, but it illuminates the area between the switches quite well and most higher-end keycap sets (including the fantastic stock ones, which are THICK doubleshot PBT with excellent quality) aren’t shine-through anyway. Honestly, for a board that doesn’t require a great deal of time and energy to put together (lubing switches is a task that costs you several (likely around 5, for 87) hours), the Q3 is simply sublime. I do enjoy using it straight out of the box – the gasket mount gives it a unique feel with some give that’s not quite like most lower-end keyboards with a rigid-mounted metal plate. It’s got a very high-profile case, but a wrist rest handily solves that problem. The switches are buttery smooth and stabilizers don’t rattle one bit. The gasket mount feels great, the board delivers what is possibly the best sound I’ve ever heard from Gateron brown switches. I can only imagine how it would sound with some proper switches, like Boba U4Ts. Highly recommend this board if you’re looking for a barebones option for a higher-end custom (QMK/VIA and the relatively attainable price mean this board makes a lot more sense than many group buys) or just a very, very good high-end prebuilt.

    Overall impression: One of the best beginner keyboards out there and YES you should get it. If you want to know why then keep reading… If you stubbled upon the world of custom keyboards aka “Keeb” outside of the prebuilt/stock from known brands like Razer, Logitech, etc etc, then I welcome you! By now you probably already know that there are about few dozens of custom KBs manufacture out there and almost 10x that for switches and keycaps. Keychron is one of the original custom keyboard manufacture and they have gone through many different type of alliterations and builds. Their latest is the Q3 which has many of the great upgrades from its previous models. Quality: From the first time you pick it up out of the box its quite different from prebuilt keebs. It is heavy and well built. The entire casing is aluminum and its gasket mounted board. Keychron has a beautiful infographic of a breakout model so that you can see exactly what is the entire kb made of. Switches/Keycaps: You get to pick your choice of flavor much like Ash Ketchum picking his favorite Pokemon. The doubleshot keycaps are very nice to type on. I picked the 55g Pro Brown tactile switch which also has a nice feedback along when typing. My fingers does not feel tired when coding on it all day. Now my experience will be different from yours as each people prefer different switches and operating force. The switches has very little movement on both X and Y axis. It has minimum keycaps wobbles. Keep in mind this keyboard is high-profile meaning there is a raised wall that covered up to the keycaps. See picture for details. This mean your RGB will be a a bit dimmer vs. low profile keyboard. Sound: So you got this deep and want to know the sound. As I mentioned I got the Pro Brown so it has a very nice soft “thock” and very pleasant to the ears. I do not hear squeaking or pinging from the springs. Per Keychron the switches are lubed. I did not open it up to check how well they are lubed. This is a great beginner keyboard for those who just got headache after looking at 30 boards and 100 switches type. You can definitely take this apart and upgrade slowly with different mods out there. PS. Did I mentioned it has a sexy KNOB? Oh yea, it does… PPS. Also, QMK/VIA compatible. Nuff said.
