- Keychron Q5: A fully customizable mechanical keyboard with the 96% or 1800 compact layout, full aluminum CNC machined body, double-gasket design, and QMK/VIA support, the Q5 is designed while retaining all the essential functions and number keys.
- With full QMK and VIA support, you can easily program and remap each key on the keyboard. The open-source firmware means endless possibilities for keyboard layouts, shortcuts, backlight effects, and more.
- In addition to the gaskets on the plates, we added silicone pads between the top and bottom cases to significantly reduce the sound resonance between the metals and reduce the noise of the impacted metals. This design allows the keyboard to maintain the flexibility of the gasket structure and improves the overall typing sound.
- The hot-swappable sockets are mounted on the PCB and compatible with almost all the MX style 3pin and 5pin mechanical switches on the market (including Gateron, Cherry, Kailh, etc.), you can install or change the switches without soldering. Pre-installed the pre-lubed Gateron G Pro mechanical red switch providing unrivaled linear responsiveness with up to 50 million keystroke lifespan.
- Easily Assembled: Designed every component easily assembled, you can customize and adjust each component including keycaps, switches, gasket, plate, and case foam if you want. The big keys’ (space bar, shift, enter, delete) typing experience is now more stable and smooth with the new screw-In PCB stabilizers. Note: The Q5 even supports third-party stabilizers, including Cherry or Durock.

I’ve had gaming boards from manufactures such as Logitech, Corsair, Steel, Razer, even imports such as Filco. This is a board in a league of its own. For a similar price to the high-end of the mentioned brands you get a keyboard that is FAR superior in build and feel. It’s literally a brick so it doesn’t move unless you want it to. The design makes typing super smooth and, with the Cherry Reds, surprisingly quiet (not as quiet as your laptop keyboard, but for a mechanical board, it’s down right silent). The Mac/PC switch is silly, but having the keys for both is great (I’m using the Q5 on a Mac right now). The lighting is rather subtle and customizable right from the board so you don’t have to use the software (I won’t). And knowing its customizable is a plus but I suspect I won’t touch this thing, it’s perfect as is.

This is my fourth keyboard in two years – really had trouble finding something that felt right and spaced so my fingers hit the mark every time. Given the cost of the keyboard, I was hesitant to try it. At the end of the day, the feel was just too good, so it stays! The only thing I have done in the way of configuration was to set up a light display of all steady teal-blue lights rather than the various patterns it came with. At some point, I might give the red switches a try, but for now, loving the clatter of real switch feedback! For me, it loses one star on the cost, though if I liked to fiddle with the configuration, I would probably not feel that way – I just wanted a comfortable keyboard.

I really loved this keyboard. The typing experience is really great and the build quality is impressive. I returned mine though because the red switches just have too low of an actuation force for my preference. Maybe a more accurate typer would like it but barely touching the edge of a key would actuate it and this resulting in a lot of errors for me. I got the same keyboard with the Brown switches and it works much better for me.
With that said I noticed on my second keyboard that the lower half of the keyboard had a lot of flex and there was a lot of pinging in the center of the keyboard. These problems were not present on the first keyboard. So I will be returning this keyboard as well and try for a third keyboard to fully satisfy my needs.

A true pleasure to type on. Worth the money and makes you look for a reason to use it. Thwack is extremely satisfying and not overt.
