   Hotswappable, aluminum bodied keyboard with a knob? Sign me up! I’d been looking to get a newer keyboard as the Ducky I had felt a bit bland, and it felt limited in that it isn’t hotswappable and I had no desire to solder. After a few weeks of looking through keyboards I had arrived to Keychron’s Q6 Max. The keycaps are an interesting profile and I like how they felt, altogether the entire platform felt well engineered and put together. I hadn’t had a wireless keyboard before and it was interested to use it to type on my cellphone; I’ve used it a few more times as I vastly prefer a mechanical keyboard over a touchpad keyboard such as on a phone screen. Would I get it again? I’ve considered getting my girlfriend one! Picture: Midway through swapping the keycaps to the new Cerakeys that I’d been excited to try.

   This thing is a beauty. Extremely well crafted. We use for general typing and Excel spreadsheets in a home office. Really enjoy the key press feel and sound, and the stability and substantial heft just feels right. I like the 3 ways you can choose to connect to the PC better than I thought I would. I’m using it wired so I can use the key programmer to experiment making a few keys helpful in Excel . It comes configured for Mac users but they provide Windows keys that took just a few minutes to swap. Just slide the keyboard switch from Mac to Windows to start.

   Did I mention heft? You could club a burglar and it wouldn’t be the keyboard that had damage.

   Yes, I have this Keychron, and its the first true mechanical keyboard I’ve had in a decade. After seeing so many name brand keyboards go bad, and need replacing after sometimes less than a year of use. This product is solid, made of great material, each key so lovingly styled that you’d think your fingers are having a vacation spa visit with each key press. The blue tooth, wireless, and wired both work extremely well. I just can’t rave enough about my Keychron.

   I’m not sure why I waited so long to buy a quality keyboard given I spend most of my day at a computer writing software. Take it from me, don’t wait. This is the best typing experience I’ve ever had without any kind of customizations. As others have written, it weighs enough to be used as a formidable weapon. I’m sure it will last me many years to come. The experience out of the box (at least with the banana switches) is well worth the cost. Being able to modify and swap key caps, switches, etc. is a huge bonus. Software configuration under Linux with the Keychron launcher webapp was simple, though it did require some the addition of some simple udev rules (readily found with a quick google search). Switching between multiple computers with a USB switch hasn’t been an issue. I’ve honestly not taken advantage of the Bluetooth or 2.4 GHz wireless, yet. I don’t think I’ll be lugging this thing around too much, but it’s nice to have the option if that becomes convenient for cable management in the future.

   A solid keyboard out of the box that gets substantially better with some additional foam in the base. Banana switches feel excellent to type on, but also suffer from slight key instability compared to other switches on the market. Ultimately very happy, as after modification this is the best keyboard i’ve used.

   I love this keyboard so much! But the only problem I can think of is that the keyboard randomly disconnects from Bluetooth on my Mac, and I will need to turn it off and back on to repair it. Annoying, yes. I hope they fix this in a firmware update.

   This is a piece of art. The best KB I’ve ever used. If anyone breaks in my house, they will regret being knocked out with this keyboard. I think it could knock out a Buffalo with it. I absolutely love the feel and sound. Banana switches are highly recommended.

   My new Q6 max arrived with the f key not working. When I reached out to Keychron, I had already taken multiple troubleshooting steps including replacing the switch. They didn’t bother to read my request, the reply was standard text copied from the website. The response times were slow and the replies redundant and unhelpful. After days of a tedious back and forth, they requested videos of the malfunction and a serial number that doesn’t exist on the box or product. Finally they said they would send a new circuit board, but not a new keyboard. I quote from their email: “We are sorry that here is a note in our warranty link：Defects of K Pro, K Max, Q, Q Pro, Q Max, Q HE, S, V, and V Max series keyboards have been caused by manufacturing: We will only replace the defective parts of the keyboard, not the whole keyboard, as it’s highly customizable and easy to be rebuilt.  The issue you feedback can resolve via replace a new PCB.” Replacing the PCB requires disassembly, changing the switches, keycaps, and multiple internal connections, and reassembly. This would be time spent to fix their defective, never used keyboard. I eventually found and fixed the broken solder joint (see photo) that had disabled the f switch. And after 9 days of emails, a new PCB is on the way from China. Great. Keychron asked me to retract, and ultimately censored, my negative review submitted to their website. Others have clearly had the same experience, for example go-keyboard.com reviewers and commenters on Wirecutter. It seems likely Keychron has not only a quality control problem but also customer service issues. Definitely buy from go-keyboard.com if you want a Keychron. go-keyboard.com will refund while if you buy from Keychron they will not. As for trying to get Keychron to address the other problem – that Windows won’t recognize the keyboard when plugged in by cable – forget it. Not worth the trouble.

   Sadly, I think there’s a build issue with my keyboard, the Enter and Right Shift keys came skewed and I thought that it was possible to fix it just by adjusting/re-seating the stabilizers with the screws on the back of the base, but no amount of tweaking has fixed this, which is disappointing for a keyboard with this price tag and an otherwise good keyboard. Doesn’t make sense to me to return the item as I’m not in the USA and I really don’t want to deal with that process, I will just write it as a (small annoying) loss.
