   I have had this for about 6 months and it’s pretty great except for the fact that several of the keycaps are fading. It seems mostly to be in places where your nails come into contact with the bottom edges of the keys in the top row and the left CTRL button. Besides this, the keyboard is nice and clicky, the media buttons are useful and I like the customization that the logitech software brings. Just, know that whatever the keys are coated in, it’s not very durable and will begin to show signs of wear after a few months.

   I’ve owned this keyboard for years and have been very happy with it overall. Going to this from a membrane keyboard, keystrokes seemed almost telepathic. With lubed up switches and stabilizers and maybe some replacement keycaps, this thing could be pretty awesome. Pros: Solid construction, heavy, no deck flex Great media keys and volume wheel Customizable lighting and such with GHUB Great quality switches Cons: Keycaps aren’t the best. Not wearing down for me, but some remove too easily. Doesn’t thock. Could use some lube GHUB has to be running in background to take advantage of lighting customization.

   I really loved this keyboard and was surprised when a keycap kept popping off, because I’ve used their mice & membrane keyboards for over 15 years & depended on their reliability. No longer, 2 corners of the shaft inside the keycap have split (circled in the 1st picture) so it won’t stay on, making the switch useless after 5 months use. Their byzantine warranty process left me stuck. Other caps show signs of stress in the corners too. Though they claim “Ultra-durable keys tested to 50 million keystrokes”, without a keycap it doesn’t matter. Not good for a gaming keyboard & well short of 50M. This is an inexpensive keyboard until you have to replace it.

   This keyboard has the cheapest keys of any keyboard I’ve ever owned. First day and a key cracked. They’re so this and pathetic. I’ve owned this about 6 weeks now and so many keys had cracked that I just destroyed it. This product is just worthless. The only redeeming feature of this keyboard is the volume controls, which were excellent until the day I was tired of this keyboard and destroyed it.

    I like having a backlit keyboard, since I am often at the computer early in the morning when it is still dark out. Instead of turning on the room light, I like having a keyboard that shows me the keys. I had a cheap backlit keyboard from Verbatim that was initially good, but the paint on the keys quickly wore off and the most popular keys turned into unrecognizable blobs. Did I mention that I write professionally? I got a Logitech G610 keyboard to replace the Verbatim, and I was immediately impressed with the build quality and overall solid feel of the G610. What I hated — absolutely hated, and it thus accounts for my 3-star rating — was that the G610 forces you to go to Logitech and download/install drivers to control the keyboard. Wha?? Upon plugging in the Logitech G610, the keys all worked like they should. However, the white backlighting behind the keys was in a constant sweep across the keyboard from left to right. Over and over and over and over… it wouldn’t stop. I could control the brightness of the backlight sweep, but I couldn’t make it stop and just be a simple backlight. Looking at the manual that came with the keyboard, it told me to visit Logitech’s site to download the software/drivers for the keyboard. It took me several tries to find and download the correct software. My computer runs Windows 7, so I found the drivers and attempted to download. After downloading and running the drivers, I got a message that the drivers didn’t support my OS. Huh? It says that it supports Win 7!! After some more downloads and fumbling, I discovered that I needed the 64-bit version of the driver, not the 32-bit version (which is what I had mistakenly downloaded). Finally, I downloaded and ran the correct version of the software. Running the software then became a problem, as it insisted on searching my computer for games, then offering me ways to customize the keyboard to maximize my gaming experience. Hey Logitech… I’m a writer and video producer, not a gamer. Other than an occasional game of Solitaire, I don’t do gaming. I pored over the various setup screens, and eventually found a button to control the keyboard. It had a checkbox to stop the infernal sweeping of the backlight. All that effort to get what I wanted, just so Logitech could install some nosy software on my computer. You should hang your head in shame, Logitech. Your customers should never have to suffer through a fumbling head-scratching hour just to make the keyboard work the way it is described. You know the worst part of this? If I ever move this keyboard to another computer (which is likely, since this Win 7 computer wheezes a little more every day), I will have to load the $^%&# driver software all over again. Yes, every time you move this keyboard to a new computer, you will need to load the drivers on that computer to avoid the sweeping backlight effect. Dec. 2, 2021 update: After reading lots of reviews of this keyboard here on go-keyboard.com, I learned that there is a way to adjust the backlighting without loading/running the software. Hold down the Keyboard Brightness key (see my photo) and press the “0” key — that is the number “zero” and not the letter “O”. Pressing the Keyboard Brightness and 0 keys will cause the keyboard lighting to be solid across all the keys. Then just press the Keyboard Brightness key until the brightness is where you like it. If I move the keyboard to another computer, I have to do the same keypress to adjust the backlighting, but that is MUCH easier than dealing with the driver software. Note that the brief manual that comes with the G610 keyboard does not say anything about this backlight adjustment trick — it only advises you to download the software. Okay, about the actual keyboard: It looks and feels great. At the price I paid, it is a real bargain… except for the super-annoying “you gotta load the drivers” issue. If the backlight just came on normally, it would be a 5-star keyboard. Paired with the zero-star driver software, it’s a weak 3-star product. It literally would have been worth spending an extra $30 to get a keyboard that had simple on-board adjustment of the key backlights. If you are a gamer, this is possibly a good keyboard. If you are not a gamer, this could be the most frustrating keyboard you can buy.

    First impression I got of this keyboard was of the keyboard of the old Apple II if anyone remembers though. Tough, heavy, noisy, built like a tank and feel like they will last forever or at least the lettering will wear off before it stops working! To be honest not really a great first impression for a $100 keyboard especially since I’m sure there are other keyboards that are as rugged and solidly built that will also last forever. The more I used it though the more I started to like it and understood what really makes this keyboard way more expensive than your standard keyboard and so expensive. It’s really the software. The Logitech software makes it almost infinitely customizable and you can assign keys however you want and in ways you never imagined! The Arx Control software that runs on iOS or Android is awesome too and basically let’s you use this keyboard in ways I never even thought possible. For example, you can not only monitor your PC’s CPU temp, RAM usage but also GPU temps. There has been so many times I’ve been playing a game or some other intensive PC task and didn’t want to exit or switch from just to check on my temps. This is just so awesome for gamers and others that like to overclock their rigs! But that’s not all you can also use it to play back video, change audio levels, or even launch games instead of even having to set hands on the keyboard. So basically, you can use this as a remote from across the room. Other good things I noticed and made me like this more and more over time and get over the noise: braided and long cord heavy keyboard need to use both hands to pick up so don’t have to worry about it moving during gameplay. Also has padded bottom for slippery surfaces. lighted keyboard that can be customized the way you want it. We know Apple has nice backlight keyboards but do they let you only light up certain keys like the one’s you use most often in games so makes it easy to get playing a game in the dark. 26-key rollover is one of the major things that really differentiate a high end keyboard from your average keyboard. The problem with your average keyboard is that some keyboard keys don’t work when multiple keys are pressed simultaneously. This can be a major problem with games that require you to press 3 or more keys at once since cheap keyboards won’t catch them all and thus what you thought your were pressing on keyboard is not what you expect. Other than the noise the only bad thing and the reason I took off a star is that I noticed that a couple of times over the last couple of weeks I used it when I start typing really quick it seems to take a second to respond like the keyboard buffer is full or can’t keep up. Most people probably won’t notice this but I type pretty fast and notice small thing like that. So probably not the best keyboard for fast touch typist as myself but then again this is geared more for gaming. Finally, some of the typical symbols like currency and others on number keys are at the bottom instead of top as most keyboards, due to way LED on keys are at top, so that threw me off a bit when first using it but since like I said I know how to touch type not a biggie.

    Overall, I’ve been pretty happy with this keyboard. This is my first mechanical gaming keyboard, so it took me a little while to get used to the crisp clicky feeling of the keys, as well as their high profile. Quite a few of my first attempts at just typing on this keyboard were filled with typos. Now that I am used to it, though, it performs great in both gaming and typing, with the keys providing just enough stiffness and the satisfying responsiveness being great. My biggest gripe with this keyboard long-term (owned for almost a year now) has been build quality- specifically, the finish of the keys themselves. As you can see in my picture, the edges of the “W” and “A” keys have already worn through the black finish (that happened after only a few months), and the keyboard finish in general lends it a dirty look, even when it has been cleaned. I feel like this would be easily addressed by switching out the keycaps. While they’re at it, they can change the annoying font that is currently there! Would I buy it again? Yes, because the performance and controls are exactly what I was wanting, especially for the price point. Is it perfect? No, but it’s mostly just cosmetic issues.

    61 key caps good, 43 key caps broken or fractured. Some of the keys were catching from the day I received this keyboard and I assumed it just needed cleaning. I accidentally spilt a tiny amount of beer on it so I went to work on cleaning. It turns out there was nothing wrong with any of the switches. Some of the keys came off with almost no force, that’s when I started noticing the stem wells were fractured. Some still gave a decent hold strength while others were completely functionless. Other than this, everything else on the board was fine if not pretty good. But I wouldn’t waste anyone’s time recommending this any higher than 1 star. Of course this could just be a bad batch but that hardly justifies another purchase. Edit: final count, 58 good/46 bad. I’ve never had a single key cap break on me on any keyboard I’ve ever owned until this one.

    Full disclosure! I bought this keyboard as a gift to myself in December of 2016. It has been great during that time until now. I still love it, but I thought people should be aware of the build quality as it will affect my purchase going forward. The caps are plastic, not an issue, but the molding that grips the keys may be less than strong enough to stand the test of time as seen in the attached photos. I am now looking to source out key caps for it so I will let you know how that goes for anyone that has the same problem. It does have great weight and feel, and the cherry mx reds I love! But for a $100 keyboard I wouldn’t expect a 2 year life considering it is a ‘Gaming’ keyboard for the WSAD keys to break. Edit – so after researching key replacements, know that the keys are not of average size (bottom row) so when you have to replace one you have to buy them from Logitech for $40 as sold here on go-keyboard.com.

    Got it for work, I love it. Love the media volume wheel and media keys. Love the click of the switches, love the ten key addition. The simple white backlight provides a nice looking backlight and is appropriate for office/professional use. My only gripe is the keycaps are starting to wear off, the finish doesn’t seem like it’ll last forever. Mind you, I’m using this keyboard 8-10 hours a day, every day but Sunday. So it is very heavily used, but I only wipe it with a microfiber cloth every now and then to keep it clean and as you can see in the photos provided, the finish is starting to rub off the edges of a few caps.

    Hello everyone this is my review on the Logitech G610 Orion Red. You can find the TL;DR at the bottom. 🙂 BUILD QUALITY: The keyboard feels sturdy and has a bit of weight to it which results in a unit that feels robust and fairly high-quality. The top of the keyboard has a nice matte finish and the keycaps also have a matte, almost “satin” finish to them. The side of the keyboard is glossy and will surely attract fingerprints. Matte sides would have been much nicer and the decision to make them glossy seems a bit strange, but it does not seem to be that big a deal. The keycaps do leave a bit to be desired as they seem to be of a lower quality than the rest of the board and from the looks of it these keycaps will be glossing over fairly soon as I put this keyboard to extensive use. The media keys and volume roller situated in the upper right-hand corner of the keyboard both feel of a high quality. KEYCAPS: Do note, and this may be important for some folks, if you want to use custom keycaps, this keyboard does have an odd-size bottom row, particularly the spacebar which comes in at a very weird 5.75u. The entire bottom row on this keyboard is: 1.5u, 1.25u, 1.25u, 5.75u, 1.25u, 1.25u, 1.25u, 1.5u. With enough searching (and of course money) you could probably find keycaps for this bottom row, but do bear in mind that it may not be so easy and once you do find some nicer caps by time you pay for them you could be faced with a situation where the cost of those caps on top of the cost of this board exceeds that of getting a board with better keycaps to begin with. This is perhaps something for you to consider. LIGHTING: The lighting on the G610 only comes in white, however if you like the subdued styling of the keyboard but would prefer more lighting colors there is an RGB option, which is the Logitech G810. It is very similar to this board that in addition to the RGB lighting will feature Logitech’s proprietary Romer-G switches as opposed to the Cherry brown or red switch options available on the G610. Whether one enjoys the feel of Romer-G switches is very much personal preference, but one thing to note with Romer-Gs is the backlighting will be more consistent across each key, unlike Cherry’s keys where thanks to the switch design influencing the placement of the LED, the lighting can be uneven across a key. For example, the bottom half of the keys of the number row (e.g. @, %, ^, &), and the secondary functions of the Numpad (e.g. Arrow Keys, END, PG DN, DEL) will be dimmer than the top half of the key. I have included a picture of a section the number pad demonstrating this. For many it may not be that big a deal, but if you are particular about things like that it may be an issue for you and could be one reason to look into Romer-G switches. Regardless of the inconsistent lighting, you should have no problem seeing everything in a dark room. As far as lighting is concerned you can opt to use Logitech’s software to customize between different effects such as “Breathing,” “Star Effect,” “Light Wave” and things like that or if you would rather not deal with the software you can forgo some of the fancier lighting schemes and simply hold down the keyboard’s Brightness Setting key while pressing numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 0 (0 is for solid) to cycle through different preset lighting schemes. It’s a pretty neat feature. The settings you select through Brightness key + numbers 1-5 and 0 should save through a cold boot. Considering my Logitech G600 mouse features a nice onboard memory that saves lighting and binding profiles, this keyboard could have certainly used something similar which for a unit that retails for $120 would have been nice to have. FINAL THOUGHTS/OPINIONS: This keyboard was a second choice for me as I intended to get a WASD CODE which retails for $150. The only reason I picked this Logitech up is the Cherry MX Red version was available on go-keyboard.com for $80 and I wanted to save a bit of money. Personally, I’d be reluctant to pay $100 for this keyboard and certainly not the retail asking price of $120 when for just $30 more I could have gotten a backlit board from WASD which has an even superior build quality, more choice of switches, and keycaps that are easier to replace… along with no “in your face” company logos, no media control switches (which for me are useless) and features onboard memory to easily save lighting profiles. Because of a lack of onboard memory to store lighting and key assignment profiles and because of the completely odd-ball and frankly quite annoying size of the bottom row’s spacebar which makes finding a full set of custom keycaps a nightmare, I will be removing one star. In the end this is a nice keyboard for $80, and even while $100 would be doable it would be stretching it but I do trust the Logitech name and therefore can be pretty certain this keyboard will serve me well for the next few years, even if only as a backup. The flaws I mention are relatively minor and the quality and styling of this board far outweigh them. Personally I do not at all regret the purchase of this keyboard. If you want an easy, simple keyboard from a reputable company go ahead and pick this up and it should serve you well. TL;DR +Solid build quality +Tried and true Cherry MX switches +Backlit with five levels of brightness +Easy to take apart (see youtube for teardowns) +Comfortable to use -Weird sizing for keycaps on bottom row, good luck finding a 5.75u spacebar 🙁 -No onboard memory to save lighting profile, key remaps, etc. -A bit pricey considering no onboard memory, no USB passthrough, etc. -Uneven lighting on some keys. While due to the design of Cherry switches this is not necessarily a fault of Logitech, the company could have opted to orient the keycap’s primary and secondary legends horizontally instead of vertically (e.g. as see on the backlit WASD Code) which would have provided more even lighting across the key. Despite some flaws like a very odd sizing on the keycaps of the bottom row and lack of onboard memory to save lighting and other such profiles, The Logitech G610 Orion Red is solid board and one that I can happily recommend.

    Great mechanical keyboard. Logitech always makes fantastic products (you either hate them or love them). Would have liked to see a metal (aluminum) build but the plastic is seeming to hold up quite well. Cherry MX Red keys feel great with great travel and click when you bottom out. I didn’t need the flashy RGB lighting of other “gaming” mechanical keyboards so this keyboard was perfect for me. The dedicated media controls are always helpful and I like the volume dial. You can change the brightness of the keyboard from a button on the keybaord (4 levels of lighting + off). There is also a “gaming” key that disables the Windows key so you don’t accidentally press it and exit out of your game. The braided cable is also great (it may fray if you continuously scratch it off anything like the edge of your desk, but it is great). Just a note: the bottom row of the keyboard uses non-standard keycap sizes, so if you want to change the keycaps, you will have use Logitech’s replacement set or look for these sizes elsewhere. The Logitech application to control the lighting, macros, etc. seems a bit finicky at times, but is relatively easy to use. Cherry MX definitely feels better than Logitech’s proprietary Romer-G switches. Will be recommending to friends and family.

I’ve been typing and hit a key and it just breaks off and i have to super glue it back together. I’m probably going to have to do this to every key eventually. Can’t recommend at all: – keys pop out extremely easily – the A key broke after 7 months of usage (the T shaped pillar that mates to the switch snapped in half) – had to swap the broken A key for the keypad’s 5 so I can type this review (see photo) The only good things are the brightness and the volume wheel.

    In all other aspects, this keyboard is lovely. I love the way the keys feel, I love the punching sounds when you hit them with your fingers, I love the way you can customize the glowing features. It’s heavy, sturdy, and great. But then the keys began to chip. This keyboard would have been absolutely perfect, but within thirty days I began to notice the paint on the T and D keys beginning to chip off. This is especially disappointing because I originally swapped out my old keyboard for this specifically because of the chipping and wearing out of the letters on the keys. I think it’s a risk you run with backlit keys in general, so I’ve swapped it out for a non-backlit keyboard. I’m not sure if it’s because I have fingernails that I don’t bite anymore (they’re really not that long), or if I got a dud, but yeah, it’s a shame. This keyboard would have been perfect, but I just can’t recommend something that costs more than $50 if you can’t rely on the paint staying intact within the first month of ownership.

    The Logitech G610 is one of the heaviest keyboards I’ve ever owned. Mechanical keyboards tend to be heavy, but this one is a monster. The keys are extraordinarily responsive, shaped really well and are a real pleasure to type with. The keys are brightly lit by LED’s. They don’t change color though, which is one of the only things I’d love to see added to this keyboard. The keys are easily replaceable and well constructed. The keyboard has a nice glossy finish. Had three height settings with solid rubber feet. The keyboard only requires one USB port which is nice. The keyboard has music controls as well as a great volume wheel. This wheel is super handy during game play. I upgraded to the Logitech G610 from a Corsair STRAFE Cherry MX Red Mechanical Gaming Keyboard which also has the cherry MX Red switches. I really like the Logitech better as it has a nice matte finish and the keys are more enjoyable to use. The volume wheel may seem small, but it helps give this keyboard a pretty big advantage.

I am overall happy with the purchase, the switches feel nice and all have lasted till today, my only concern is the keycaps mostly WASD have started to loose paint, the letter is fully visible but the black paint on the edges of the keycaps is fading.     My first mechanical keyboard. Works alright. The keycaps would pop right off when hit too hard at the corners as the video clip shows. Would expect tighter fit for all the keycaps. The LED is not lighting up the entire keycap due to the design of the switch.

    This keyboard types well and it seems to be made with good quality. The problem is that I use it mostly in low light situations which is why I want the lighted keys. The default lighting mode when the device is reset is “wave” which has about half the keys unlit and a dizzying left to right pattern across the keys. You cannot find keys like the numbers or function keys at night reliably in low light in this mode. The problem comes in the software updates which occur regularly. Whatever this software is updating is a mystery becuase no new functionality is ever added. It seems very suspicious. The software never updates correctly so now you are left with this terminally “Installing updates” program that will not finish, and it resets the keyboard to “wave” until you uninstall it and get it back to a semi-functional state. My suggestion is to try and disable updates on the software. Suggest you buy a different keybaord with better software support. My favorite feature of this keybaord is the rolling volume control. That is a great feature.
