   I’ve had a pretty good experience with Razer products in general, so I decided to upgrade from my old Razer keyboard (Anansi), to the new Ornata Chroma which was on sale. Of course the big selling feature with the Ornata Chroma is that the keyboard uses a “mecha membrane” key system. When each key is pressed down, the feeling is similar to that of a clicky mechanical keyboard. Typing feels much better compared to my old membrane keyboard. And since it uses a membrane instead of individual mechanical keys, the price is kept down. Lighting The main reason why I bought this keyboard was for the illuminated keys. The keys appear to “float” over the RGB lighting giving it a really cool look. The actual keys themselves have their letters lit – but the font size is rather thin, so the lighting through letters can appear a bit dim compared to other competing keyboards. Still, the keys are readily readible in the dark – which works for me. Typing I really like the feel of the typing with this keyboard. I didnt’ want to spend the money for a real mechanical keyboard with RBG lighting (like the Black Window or the Huntsman), so this suits me nicely. All the keys feel great when I type long emails or documents. Gaming I’ve played mainly FPS games and MMO’s with this keyboard and it feels really comfortable. Other than the sticky issue (see below), gaming with this keyboard is good. Razer customer service helping with problems Initially I had no problems with the Ornata Chroma. I liked it so much I ended up with three of them – one for my home PC, another for my office PC, and lastly one for a family member. However, after a week 1 of the 3 keyboards started having sticky keys. I would press down on some keys and they would not return back up after the initial keystroke. This didn’t happen that often, but it was very annoying when it did. Thankfully this only plagued one of the keyboards- the other two were just fine. I tired to fix the issue myself by cleaning the key swtches, but eventually the keys would still stick down. I ended contacting Razer’s customer service. Although I had to send the keyboard back to them via Fedex (they provided the paid shipping box), the customer service was very smooth – all during a holiday break – which was quite unexpected. They literally responded to every email I sent within 1 day, and usually it was with an actual person addressing my needs specifically. The unit I received back was a brand new Ornata Chroma and it works perfectly. Conclusion In the end, I feel that my experience with this keyboard’s sticky keys is rare occurance – due to all the positive reviews that I’ve seen. And if you do have any issues, I’d say that their customer service will definitely take care of you. The Ornata Chroma is a really good deal for the feel of mechanical keyboard, response of a gaming keyboard, and the fully customizable lighting that Razer provides.

   A nice keyboard with a mechanical feel and quieter (but still there) click and phenomenal RGB software that allows you to completely customize your lighting effects. The keys themselves feel somewhat grippy but the oils from my hands have stained the keys. The keys have an activation with a audible click, however releasing slight pressure will deactivate the key but it will not rise and no click will be heard which is a really annoying problem for me for long duration key press like pressing shift to run, I let off pressure, character stops. This leads to some finger stress. The leatherette wrist rest with is not as comfortable as it may look either but it still prevents carpal tunnel syndrome; however I suspect that with time the leatherette will stretch and tear with time, like a chair. All in all, it’s a decent keyboard that I hope it lasts me as long as it costs.

   This thing was so loud with the keyboard clicking. I do a lot of coding and it was so loud typing on this thing, my dog was whining when I used it. I was so close to returning it because of this, but I found a solution online to make the click go away. This is just a membrane keyboard with a metal tab that makes it click. As seen in the pictures, you can take the key off, and use something to bend the metal tab in. Do this on all the keys and the annoying clicking sound is gone. In the video, I bent the tabs in on the number keys to show the difference. I didn’t really want to have to return it because my other options for a keyboard with a good wrist wrest were well over $100. The padded wrist rest was a key reason for buying this keyboard plus the backlit keys. One downside is that you have to sign up for a Razer Account to use the keyboard. In my opinion, that seems like a bit much for a keyboard. Also brings up privacy issues. You can tell that the quality is a little low for the price of the keyboard. One example is the space key is rather wobbly, which suggests it lacks enough support on the ends. There is a metal bar that looks like it’s supposed to help support that key, but obviously it doesn’t do enough. Also the lighting profiles are not saved to the keyboard, so when you boot the computer, you have to wait for the razer software to load the RGB profile to the keyboard. I’ll use it till it breaks and see how it goes. As for the grip, I will have to add some rubber pads to the bottom because it does kind of slide around a little. If you’re wanting a this to be a quiet keyboard, you’ll have to do the modification to the keys as described above. Otherwise, look elsewhere. Because finding a good backlit keyboard with a quality padded wrist rest, which most others are just thin rubber, is difficult, This seems to be the best option in membrane keyboards after modification. Minus 2 stars for the loud keys, and -1 for having to log into an account to use the keyboard.

   Really great keyboard, not top of the line, but in my opinion seems to get you the best bang for your buck. Pros: -Has that satisfying click from mechanical keyboards without being overly loud -While its kind of weird to get used to at first, the wrist rest feels really nice -The back light looks beautiful, and customization allows you to be able to make something subtle, or less distracting, while still cool looking, or if you want you can just blast super bright colors with ripple effects and waves and stuff, whatever you prefer Cons: -While the lighting is beautiful, the lights tend to blend in with each other, unlike the Black Widow Chroma. If you’re trying to make specific designs like logos or something, i don’t recommend using this -Razer Synapse is pretty limiting when it comes to making cool looking lighting effects. I think that’s where corsair has Razer beat. It’s not terrible, but i hope in the future, Razer Synapse allows more freedom when creating lighting effects, rather than limiting to the 8 default effects. Don’t get me wrong, despite those two slight cons, this is a really good keyboard, and i definitely recommend it if you don’t want to drop the extra $50, or more on a Black Widow Chroma, or a good Corsair keyboard

   The best feature is by far all the light options! You can layer effect upon effect and choose from any color on the spectrum. Also the wrist rest is very comfy, I just wish the magnet was a bit stronger. But that’s no issue for when it’s flat on a desk. It’s compatible with both my computers and looks awesome with my setup. The clicking is also something I love, some say it sounds awful but I love it and think it’s just a matter of preference. It’s not as obnoxious as other gaming keyboards but is still satisfying.

   I’ve had it for about a week and really love it. I do a lot of work from home and it has actually motivated me to do work 🙂 I thought adding light animations when I pressed the keys would be distracting, but its not. It makes me feel like I’m accomplishing something. The only complaint I have (and it’s not big enough to knock of a star) is the writing on the keys is a bit weird. You know how normally the keys that have secondary functions by pressing shift have the secondary function written above the primary function? For some reason, they are reversed on this keyboard. So, instead of the numbers being on the bottom and the secondary items being on the top, the secondary items are on the bottom and the numbers are on the top. Its not a big deal until you try to use one of those keys you always forget which is primary and secondary (for me its the = + key and the \ | key). I’ve attached a picture so you can see what I’m talking about. It’s a weird design choice and because of this I wouldn’t recommend this keyboard for someone who can’t type without looking at the keyboard.

    Screw this company. Bought a keyboard just over a year ago. The Ornata and in the last week one of the keys stopped clicking, so I remove the keycap and find that the tiny plastic knob that holds the metal clicker down was worn down to the point it couldn’t hold the metal clicker in place. I filed a warranty claim and they said it was MY fault that I somehow misused it. “after careful inspection and investigation they deemed the damage as a customer induced.” You mean, gaming and typing 7 days a week is misuse on a keyboard? Then they spout this bull crap at me “Please understand that the main reason we cannot honor your request is that doing so would not be fair to all of our customers who purchased a RazerCare Plan who covers customer induced damage cases.” Customer induced damages my ass. Maybe poor craftsmanship or poor design. They even show you an image of how the key is made and there are two tiny knobs that hold the metal piece in place. Design flaw at best but saying it was customer induced damage. I totally understand, I’m not valued as a customer who has purchased a LOT of their products over the years and I get it. They don’t even make the older Ornata and don’t want to send a customer a V2 replacement. Buyer beware, gaming/writing/typing over 40hrs a week is misuse on a keyboard with a flaw in design. There are grooves in the tabs above the metal clicker piece. Guess the metal piece won against plastic. Go figure. I’m pretty sure the Ornata V2 is designed the exact same way. But, it’s MY FAULT it happened.

    I am in love with this keyboard. Admittedly I absolute hate razer software but I deal with it because the rgb customization is amazing. If you have a decent cpu you probably don’t have to worry much, however razer has a part of the program called razer game scanner which is virtually useless but it shoots lines and lines of code constantly and can choke your cpu. Disabling this through the system settings will make razer synapse disable as well since it’s reliant on this stupid software to function. If you’re cpu can handle a little extra load, or if you don’t mind the default color shift when the software isn’t installed then this is a fantastic buy. Aside from the software, this keyboard feels great to type on. I love the sounds and the height of the key caps. If you aren’t super picky about the feel of mechanical keys this is wonderful!

    I had a very small issue with it. A few of the keys didn’t click like the rest of them. All you got to do is pop it up with moderate force. You can use a coin to do this or your finger, I personally used my finger to do this. There is a small metal piece at the top of the key hole (shown in purple), all you have to do is bend it to be slightly further out than it’s plastic neighbor (shown in red). Don’t do it too far or it will hold the key, but just enough. After that I downloaded Razer Synapse and got to programming the lighting and functions and it works GREAT

    Sometimes the lighting can get distracting. Playing some CS:GO and all the sudden my keyboard flashed and I got rushed. The timing wasn’t great. So I just continued to stare at the keyboard and it made me happy. I love it and the customization I can do with Synapse is brilliant. It feels much smoother to use than any other.     December 2021 update: I’ve had this keyboard for 3 years now. The the wrist pad ripped a hole last month. The R and 1 key gets annoyingly stuck half the time. Had a good run I suppose. But only three years… Everything about this keyboard is perfect. Great price and great feel. The keys are half the dept of a normal key board and I prefer it this way.     The first thing that you have to know about this keyboard is that is gorgeous! Really, is amazingly beautiful and it really looks like something resistant and well made. It is a niche keyboard, which is intended for those who have tried a mechanical keyboard and did not like the type of pressure of their keys, the sound or their height of the keys. It is a well-built keyboard with an extra that we can not forget: wrist rest. I use a lot the keyboard and a wrist rest, specially a good one, is amazing. The Razer Ornata Chroma does not replace a mechanical keyboard, but it is a good answer for those users who want a nice, rugged, “mechanical” looking keyboard.     5 star one of the best budget keyboards i have used. if you looking for a good keyboard on a budget here you are. The Keys themselves glow brightly, the synapse software by razer is the best i have personally ever used. Some games even do some cool things with the keyboard (gears of war 5 for example makes keys that are used in game glow brighter and will make the keys turn more progressively red as you take damage, and the keys will glow completely red when you die)

    This is the best one I had, this sound of keys is amazing, I like it so much. I hadn’t seen anything so customizable, you can change each key color, brightness and changing color and angle separately, set additional functionality for them as you want. Also there is gaming mode which allows to disable Windows key, Alt+Tab and Alt+F4 (also custom, you can check what to disable). So, I highly recommend this item, it’s amazing 🙂

    I bought this keyboard in May 15, 2020 and just a week ago 10/23/2022 the resting pad started to tear and it’s already been such a long time. It went thru hardcore gaming in my hands and just started to rip. But the keyboard itself did not have any problems at all.     I’ve used this keyboard for the past 3 or so years. A couple months after getting it, I got sick of the loud clicking sounds—the metal clickers they’ve put inside these are rather obnoxious. If you want the keys to feel and sound much smoother, follow the steps below. I’ve included a before/after noise comparison. Aside from the noise, my only real gripes are (1) the atrocious Razer software that seems to receive meaningless updates every couple days, and (2) the included wrist rest, which will eventually wear out and start tearing after some heavy use. The keyboard itself, however, still looks great, feels great, and is very customizable. 1. Get a pair of precision pliers and a keycap remover (or just use your fingers like I did, although beware it does hurt quite a bit) 2. Pull the keycaps off the keys you want to be quieter. 3. Carefully go in with the pliers and lift the the metal clicker bit forward and out from its resting place, trying not to crush or bend it with the pliers. 4. Put the keycaps back on, and I guess save the metal clickers if you decide you want them back in. This works for every key on the keyboard, including the spacebar and all the other longer keys like Shift, Enter, and Backspace (although you may or may not want to take out the metal “bar” that spreads pressure evenly across these longer keycaps, depending on your preference).

    I LOVE this keyboard. I use it at work currently and i love that i can sync it to my Razer mouse or make them polar opposites. I love changing it to match my mood at any given moment and I love that I can make it reactive, have the rainbow cycle through, etc. The options are ENDLESS.     The 3 stars is because of the broken corner when it arrived. I contacted go-keyboard.com shipping and they would give a full refund, but I bought it on Black Friday at a great price and the same keyboard would cost me twice as much.     Great keyboard, I truly love it and it works great for work and video games. The issue is I received a damaged product, while this certainly doesn’t affect any sort of performance as it’s only on the wrist pad – it’s quite annoying. Normally I would mark this up as something that happened during shipping, but since there was 0 damage to the boxes and the keyboard was secure in its box – it seems as if though it was shipped damaged which is a huge disappointment

    This keyboard honestly feels amazing it is a good balance between mechanical and membrane, tons of options for rgb configuration. Only gripe is one of the keys wich is the “.” Key came sunken other wise a 5 star for me. So be sure to check your keyboard upon receiving it.     Excellent keyboard, but some glitches I love the feel of this keyboard, its customizability is excellent (probably better than the blackwidow in terms of looks) The glitches i have found with the keyboard is that the keyboard will flicker/flash one time the default pinkish color when opening and closing my laptop lid (turning on/off screen) and one of my custom profiles made it flicker randomly. But this is probably just a software glitch and will be fixed down the road. (It doesnt occur every time just sometimes) Edit: The bug previously mentioned has gone away, apparently an update fixed it or a reinstall of my OS (I installed Linux on my laptop, but decided to go back to windows for my main OS due to program compatibilities). however I have found a new glitch – somewhat hardware related – After a period of not using the keyboard I started typing and some keys wanted to stick for like a second, (seemed to be only 1 or 2 keys suffered with this) but the glitch quickly disappeared and haven’t had it occur since.

    This keyboard is perfect for those who like mechanical keys for gaming, but prefer old-school keys for text typing. These keys strike the perfect balance between the two.     Man, when they say “Clicky” They mean it. I fell in love with the idea of Chroma. Then I found Razer and have had this on my wish list for years for when I decided to start getting into PC gaming and streaming. After long hours of researching Ornata won me over. Its far less clicky rather than the Black Widow. The quality is easily 10/10. The lighting and setup is flawless and easy. I have mine currently set on “Fire” But with Blue and Purple. I love the fact that you can change it to whatever you like. Key mapping, however you want. The wrist rest that came with it, I wasn’t a huge fan of when I ordered….But i realized how extremely comfortable and needed it was. Its also removable in case you don’t want it. But I do recommend using it. It’s held together by a magnet in the center of the wrist pad that is not visible to the eye/ Its not strong but does the job when its properly placed. Definitely get this one VS Black Widow… Just my opinion. Shipping process was amazing and smooth. Arrived in a perfect, clean condition.

    Got my boyfriend this keyboard, he seems to really like it. Has a bunch of different settings for the colors, so not only can you change it from a bunch of different colors it also has different “dance” effects for the colors I should say. Also the cushion is magnetic, we sat for 10 min trying to connect it before we realized its magnetic lol… but he also loves the cushion, it adds lots of support so if you’re a gamer and could use the extra comfort around your wrist I definitely suggest this. You can take out keys without ruining for a good clean. Hope this helps 🙂

    I needed a new keyboard when my widow chroma’s lighting shorted on half the keys. Super rare for them but I was the lucky one who didnt have warranty left 😛 This was a cheap alternative and honestly I really enjoy it. I dont really keybind/macro my keys too much other than in World of Warcraft and it works for that. For FPS it also has good reaction time. I enjoy the color and being able to customize – As I was able to with the widow. 10/10 Keyboard and great price for what you get.

    I use this for transcription. It took a while for my fingers to get used to it but I eventually got to my usual speed. The keys are wearing off pretty quickly though. I’ve only had it for 5 months and they started wearing off after about 3. Also 2 of the keys (9 and down arrow) don’t change colors with the rest.
