   This is my review of the SteelSeries Apex 3 corded keyboard, with number keypad. I do not game, and I have a Windows 10 desktop computer. I’ve been computing since 1985, and this is easily among the best keyboards I’ve used, both professionally and at home. I almost wish my Perixx keyboard had broken sooner. PROS: 1. Nice weight, with very nice rubber footing. The keyboard’s tilt stands are exceptional quality, and include the rubber footing. There are three options for cord routing under the keyboard. 2. The volume control knob is well made, easy to use, and provides a tactile feedback. Each click of the wheel bumps the volume by two steps. It takes me four quick turns of the wheel to go from zero to full volume. Clicking the knob mutes and un-mutes the volume. I find it intuitive and easy to use. 3. A single click of the media button will play/pause, and it works fine with iHeart, YouTube and other online media. A double-click forwards to the next track, and a triple-click goes back one track. 4. Typing is supreme. The keys have a slightly firm feel, with just the right amount of tension that reminds me of the high quality keyboards of yesteryear. I find myself typing faster and with less errors. 5. The keys are not completely silent, but there are no audible clicks and it won’t wake the household at night. I only hear gentle keystrokes as I type. 6. The overall construction is excellent. There’s no unusual flexing, rattling, etc. The keys are well set, with not even the slightest rattle if you shake the keyboard. The key caps have no perceptible side-to-side play in normal use. 7. This is a membrane keyboard, with a spill-proof design. But if I didn’t know better, I would swear in court that it’s a mechanical keyboard. 8. The keyboard remembers settings, even after unplugging it and then plugging it back in. Note that I am using the Engine software with custom settings applied. CONS: 1. The indicator lights (num lock/caps lock, etc.) are very poorly placed just above the number keypad. I have to sit forward over the keyboard to see the lights, or I have to tilt the keyboard back. Hopefully a future revision will fix this irritation. 2. The zone lighting (ten in all) works well, but it is not as good as individual key cap lighting. The key characters are not as bright as I prefer, and the light spill is slightly distracting. In reality, it works and it’s easy to get used to it. At this price point, it’s easy to forgive. 3. The preset keyboard profiles do not have any single-color patterns. You have to download and install the software to achieve that. BEWARE that in the Engine software, you must FIRST select the zones that you want to adjust, or nothing will happen. 4. The keyboard lighting goes off when the computer is shut down (this is good), but not when the computer sleeps. I don’t use hibernate or any other sort of deep sleep, so I don’t know how that will work. 5. There is no USB extension port. All of the dual function key characters are oddly reversed. For example, the special characters on the number row are on the bottom half, and the numbers are on the top half. The numbers are the default, and the special characters require using the shift key as normal. I don’t understand the thinking that went into this. I don’t use the palm rest, but it appears to be as high quality as the rest of the keyboard. In all, the cons are minor. The keyboard looks and feels so good that it’s easy to overlook my dislikes. It oozes quality, despite the low price. If I could, I’d rate it 4.5 stars.

   Been using a cheap go-keyboard.com keyboard for awhile. It hurt my wrists, didn’t feel great, not exciting, decided it was time for an upgrade. I use this keyboard for work, 10-15hrs per day. The wrist support is fantastic, the shape of this keyboard prevents fatigue and aches. The colors are so vibrant, the multiple custom pattern choices and reactive keys are fantastic. The OLED display is so much fun, make me feel like a kid. The app allows you to customize the entire thing from patterns to reactive keys and OLED etc. the app is very easy to use, customization is endless. The keys feel very quality and smooth, the clicks are satisfying though a bit loud. But overall very quality keyboard that’s entertaining, comfortable and satisfying, highly recommend.

   my normal keyboard is a g pro tkl, though i decided to try this one out as the g pro is very clicky and noisy. i love how quiet and smooth the typing experience is, and it plays great in games. there is something that puts me off of this keyboard, and that’s the fact that the caps lock indicator is obscured by the macro keys. i would suggest moving the light indicator an inch or so higher so the user can see if caps lock is on without having to lean over their keyboard all the time

   Just opened it and am typing this review on it now. It replaced a razer cynosa lite keyboard I’ve had for some time that has seen its fair share of use. I’ve tried a bunch of different keyboards for gaming and general typing etc, (logitech, corsair, red dragon, razer etc) and have found as i get older, i like the membrane/brown keys the best. I don’t like to listen to a bunch of clickity clack while i play and the membrane is smooth and consistent. This board is wonderfully balanced, and the keys all feel like they have a soft velvet or silk on them, there’s no slip but actually grabs your fingers while you type or game. For the price and what you get out of the box with a plug and play keyboard, i have not a single problem with it. I’ll likely end up using this board until it explodes or the keys stop working. I got it on sale for $24.98, 50% off! Seriously, for an RGB keyboard with a magnetic rest, it feels like a steal. Happy with the purchase!

    The caps lock key was off when I first got it and one of the magnets from the wrist rest is not properly attached so it comes off and attaches itself to the keyboard. I love the fact we can change the direction when the wire comes out of and the build is nice. However, it definitely should be built better considering the price. I also get that this is tactile and clicky, but I wish the quiet full keyboard was available cuz the clicking might be too clicky.

    I was a little skeptical getting a gaming keyboard for $45. I’m an emergency services dispatcher and type all day long, so finding a comfortable keyboard is an important part of my job function. I’ve yet to find a mid priced keyboard that felt sturdy enough and had the feel of solid construction. This one though I’m really happy with. Quiet, good key travel with a satisfying tactile feel.     I wanted a Steel Series keyboard to go with my Steel Series mouse. I’m so glad i got this one, and would consider buying an even higher end Steel Series kebyoard now as well. I don’t know who they have doing their switches, but it is the best sounding and feeling “cliky” blue switch i’ve ever used. I’ve used everything from authentic Cherry Blue switches, to Kailhs, to Gaterons, to the cheapest Outemu, to Razer’s clicky green and purle switches. The keyboard is a dream to both type and game on. The Steel Series GG software is easy and intuitive to use. The illumination is easy to figure out does everything you could need it to. The metal wheel feels great to the fingers, and spins smothly. You will not regret buying this keyboard.

    I am blown away at the price to performance for this keyboard. I bought this January of 2020. so I am reviewing it now after 11 months of use. Pros: + I love to customization of the colors you can do. + Never once had any issues with any regular keys. + Super quite compared to more tactile keyboards, so nice when having a kid sleeping nearby. + Build quality + fast response times Cons: – The mute button is so difficult to mute with. However, the play/pause button works better. so instead of muting you can play or pause, but doesn’t work well if the program you are wanting to mute sound due to live content or zoom or something. That’s it folks. if you are coming from a non-gaming keyboard to this, you will love it! It is wired though, so if you need wireless, this won’t be it, and I currently do not have any other product to recommend for that. For $50, this has been one of the best purchases. With some keyboards you will see wear on the keys, but i have not seen any wear. and I use this everyday as a developer and gamer. So, there hasn’t been any noticeable wear on the keyboard. Highly Recommend!

    As soon as I plugged this keyboard into my IMac M1 2021 desktop computer, a message showed on screen that it did not recognize the keyboard and all I had to do was do two things when it asked me to. Sync shift to the UP arrow under the caps lock arrow on this Keyboard and the ctrl key as well if I am remembering correctly. Typing has that old school keyboard sound and the lights are bright but in a satisfying way. Amazing work around low price keyboard for mac. I would recommend this to many!

    I purchased this keyboard last January yesterday one of my cats knocked it off the desk. I contacted the manufacturer and was told they don’t have any keys available at this time. Though I really did like the feel of this keyboard but I will not purchase anything from Steelseries again, because the lack of product durable and replacement parts. The fact that this key popped out with just a minor fall points to poor product quality. Also, the fact that they create removable keys for a keyboard then do not have replacement keys available is a poor business practice.

    Great product; looks great and is much quieter than I’d anticipated for having such large keys. It reminds me of the old keyboards I used in typing class from the early 90s. Make no mistake, the keys are nowhere near low profile and they DO make more sound than my low profile keyboard did. So if sound is going to be an issue, maybe look elsewhere. Also, the changing of the colored lights requires a software upload. I use this keyboard for work and cannot upload software; I had to upload the software to my personal laptop, pick a color and hope it stayed. Good news: color stayed once connected to my work computer. The only caveat is that I’ll have to disconnect from my work pc and connect to my personal pc again if I want to change colors. Regardless of my personal dislike, it’s a good keyboard and I enjoy the backlight.

    I have been a fan of Steel Series for quite a while now and this keyboard did not disappoint! The construction of this keyboard is fantastic. It has a durable metal case that feels extremely sturdy and has a very nice weight. The included wrist rest is magnetic, and the magnets are strong enough to keep it in place without worrying about knocking it off by just moving around. The keystrokes feel really nice and responsive for both gaming and general use, and overall this a very comfortable and satisfying keyboard to use on a daily basis. The RGB lights are also a very nice touch, and the Steel Series software is very easy to use and provides great customization options to get the look and feel you need. You can also use programs like SignalRGB and OpenRGB to control the lights if you prefer. For the price of this keyboard, I am pretty blown away by how good the quality is. This is an awesome all-around keyboard at a great price, and I’d definitely recommend it. I bought mine for my gaming rig and I’m seriously considering buying a second one for my workstation!

It gives me exactly what I was missing from my last keybds. GREAT responsiveness. Plugs into USB 3.0 port. This is a gaming keyboard. ALUMINUM FTW! I bought 2 IO Gear Kaliber aluminum gaming keyboards in the past. Terrible lighting scheme; lights went out on one and dimmed on the other keybd. Software is TRASH AND NOT WORTH THE HDD SPACE.     First of all, let me say that I can tell by the comments that not many people know what steel series is. I read someone called it a low budget keyboard. I guess for some that might be true. Steel series is an amazing keyboard. This one is no exception. If you’re hard on your keyboard, you can expect problems out of any one you buy. I have a titan MSI laptop and it came with the steel series keyboard built in along with the software. That’s a $5000 machine. I didn’t have to do anything when I connected this to my MSI. other than go into my steel series software and customize the keyboard the way I wanted it. After that, it was off to the races. 0 Issues. 0 Complaints. I use this when I’m facing a different screen behind me and its great.

    I used to have the Apex 7 with red keycaps in my old house, I build a new pc and I got this one because I didn’t wanted to expend to much. It feels well built. Nothing compared to apex 7 but this cost 5 times less and still has the sound wheel. Which is the main reason I got it. It may be better options if you don’t mind other brands or a few bucks more. One thing I don’t like is that’s only 10 zone rgb. So I just keep a cyan/pink/purple animation and looks okay. I may change it later when I find a mechanical with knob that I likes better.

    I was a little hesitant to buy this after reading some reddit reviews. I’m not sure what’s changed since those reviews came out but this is an awesome keyboard! I love have all my info on the small lcd screen. I can keep track of Temps, loads and a ton of other things. Integration into games works great. Rgb changes with what’s going on in some games like Rust. The feel of the keyboard is solid. Keys feel great and the build quality seems top notch. I caught this on sale but I’d happily pay full price. Still cheaper than a majority of major name brands. If you’re looking at new gaming peripherals I’d go with steelseries. Just picked up the Apex 6 mouse to go with it also!

    I can’t really say if the keys feel nice, since this is my first ever mechanical keyboard, so I can’t really compare. Key responses are good. Price is decent, would definitely recommend you get it when it’s on sale at $35 instead of the $45. Does require SteelSeries GG program, but account is not needed to customize. Wire length is good. Keyboard is stiff and doesn’t twist. Magnetic armrest is easy to take off and feels nice.

    The keyboard is decent. While it’s not silent, it’s much quieter compared to a mechanical keyboard, though still louder than a membrane keyboard. The sound level is acceptable. However, the key rebound is not great, making it less suitable for gamers. I purchased this keyboard primarily to avoid disturbing my family at night. When the first keyboard arrived, the left CTRL key was not functioning. I’m not sure if this is a quality control issue or something else. I decided to order a replacement. If the second one also has issues, I’ll definitely be back to share an update.

    First of all Its a membrane not mechanical (i bought it by mistake) but it have a good feel to every keystroke like a dell US SK-8115 – NM467 (that keyboard has an amazing feel but this steel series is way better) , second i has a multimedia multi funtion button with a scroll for volume and mute. I like the fact that i can type for hours with not having any disconfort. I have month using it and still love even tho i cant play osu and apex to a good level with it because is not perfect for fast and precise key pressed like circle streams in osu and technical maps or super glide in apex and movement techniques (you can do it but will not always work as you want or need). I must say its actually a good keyboard overall and call it again its membrane with good feel. if you can buy the mechanical version i think i can do the trick.
