   I own all the previous versions of the G15 keyboard, the G19 (color LCD), and now this latest (2010) addition from Logitech: The G510. Basically, they added a 3.5mm headphone/microphone jack (including buttons to mute them separately) on the back of the keyboard; however, they took away the USB ports. They also brought back more G-keys like on the first G15 edition, released in 2005, with a total of 18 programmable keys x 3 modes = 54 programmable (of course, more G-keys means the G-keys are smaller). The volume control and the media keys are exactly the same as the ones on the G19 keyboard. The circular volume control on the first G15 keyboard was definitely the most convenient. If you like the WASD buttons on the each key to be really spread out, then the very first discontinued G15 keyboard would be your choice. If you like the keyboard buttons to be large and closer together, then the 2007 model of the G15 with the orange LED would be your choice. If you like the keys to be close together, then the G19 is for you. For the G510, there is a slight gap between each keys, but certainly not as much as the very first G15 keyboard. Overall, I really like the size, feel and position of the the WASD keys on the G510; there’s more breathing space for my fingers. When I go back to typing on the G19, the keys feel more cluttered too close together. There is also a nice mushy feel when typing on the keyboard. While the G19 with a color LCD may seem cool at first, the cool factor has kind of died down on me because the screen size is just too small in today’s standard (and being spoiled by much crystal clear retina displays on the Apple/iTouch); this G510 keyboard has gone back to its roots, focusing more on the gamer in mind and less on those gimmicks. If your primary concern is the feel of the keys, want lots of programmable buttons, and really don’t care about a color LCD/USB ports – and own 3.5mm headset/microphone – I would say this version is the choice.

   The Good: I’ve had the Logitech G510 for almost two years now and to this day I have yet to see it show any major signs of its age. The keys have a nice almost rubberized feel to them that seems to prevent any of the oil related wear that plagues keyboards in the lower price range. The lights have held up phenomenally and have a nice understated tone to them. And after looking at the Razor Chroma and the Corsair Strafe RGB I’ve noticed that the new theme seems to be these distracting and overstated lights, and I’m more than happy to keep with Logitechs cleaner design. A second new theme in the keyboard market is making keyboards without any dedicated macro key options. Thankfully, the G510 has a plethora of macro keys (18×3 if you count all of the user profiles) for anything from gaming to coding. Lastly, this keyboard comes with everything you need to get started right out of the box. Included wrist rest, audio controls, dedicated function keys, headphone/mic ports, and LCD readout. It’s hard to find all of these options at the price you can get this keyboard for. The Bad: Once you begin to look for flaws in this keyboard they only become more and more apparent. The plastic construction begins to feel cheap and the wrist rest begins to creak, and one day you notice that the keyboard has a thin and non braided cord that could accidentally be severed. Eventually you find yourself pining after the newer keyboards. You know, the ones that somehow didn’t forget to add a USB pass through. The Conclusion: Apart from a few nuanced complaints, the G510 can still stand toe to toe with a lot of the keyboards on the market today that can go for almost twice the price. It’s working after two years of constant use, it can still write long winded reviews about itself, the lights are all still bright, and the software still works. For anyone that’s looking to buy a gaming keyboard without spending the premium price, picking up an older G510 is the perfect compromise.

   Is great lots of room for macros very fast key time relay programmable colors and board. Has stats you can display for many games helping keep you at the top as well as other handy info about your computer. A must for any gamer.

   – good keyboard, but they keys could be more responsive

   – features are decent, however the software that comes along with it makes for some difficult use. Not to mention it took me forever to find a download that would support windows 8

   – lighted keys are useful, but could be brighter

   – very durable! Used vigorously over 2 years with no problems. It can take a good coffee spill or too…
