Keychron K8 Tenkeyless Wireless Mechanical Keyboard – Great for Typing, but Use a Wrist Rest I’m really happy with my purchase of the Keychron K8 Tenkeyless Wireless Mechanical Keyboard. The design is sleek, the packaging was impressive, and setting it up was very easy. It connects seamlessly via Bluetooth or Type-C, making it perfect for multitasking between devices. I originally wanted the Gateron Blue switches for their higher resistance but decided against them due to the noise. I went with the Gateron G Pro Brown switches instead, and I’m pleased with them. They provide nice tactile feedback without being too loud, which makes them great for typing in quieter environments. That said, I do sometimes slip and accidentally press keys, but it’s a minor issue for me. One important thing to note: I recommend using a wrist rest. Without one, I found my wrists getting sore after extended typing sessions due to the keyboard’s higher profile. Overall, it’s a solid, reliable keyboard for typing, and I would definitely recommend it, especially if you use a wrist rest for better comfort.

This is the K8-A3. I write and code, so TKL is my favorite layout. The brown tactile switches are very smooth, just the right amount of actuation force for me, and the shine-through keycaps look great. I attached a photo taken in a dark room with max backlight. Bluetooth connectivity is ok, although I prefer a dedicated wireless dongle. Setup is easy, but save the reference card. There’s a nice fabric-covered USB cable (B-C) with a right angle keyboard connector – a nice touch. No issues, no weirdness. Would buy again.

Great value! I love mechanical keyboards. The heavier the key the better (remember the IBM XTs?). This is hefty, solid and has that terrific tactile feel when you type. I write for a living so getting this old school keyboard will help me work better. Function keys are excellent, and the backlighting is solid. The price is the best part. Comes a USB A to C adapter but you can use your own C cable. Great price too. There is a version with the keypad if you do a lot of number crunching. This may be my best buy of the year so far.

Purchased early 2021, replaced with a competing product in late 2021. Attempted to breathe new life into this keyboard in 2023 after being on the shelf for well over a year or so. The Keychron K8 is a decent entry-level mechanical keyboard, especially for users seeking wireless connectivity. However, I would suggest that if one is picky enough to want a mechanical keyboard, they would likely opt for the responsiveness of a wired keyboard setup instead – your usage and application may vary. This thing is – plastic. Build quality is – plastic. While sturdy, it is – plastic. Aside from price, the best part about this keyboard is the MX brown switches – which are NOT hot swappable, by the way. The keycaps are cheap and dont feel substantial to the touch. The worst part is the keycap finish feels somewhat like the surface of a chalkboard. For fun, I have since replaced the keycaps with Matt30 /dev/tty keycaps (see photo) which retail for more than the price of this keyboard. Quality was substantially improved… so perhaps there is a more reasonably priced keycap that someone might enjoy. By comparison to my daily driver keyboard is made of much heavier materials, including an aluminum case, which do not “give” as much when typing – so I do not feel replacing the keycaps alone is an ideal long-term solution for everyone. But it might be enough to get more enjoyment out of these boards for those who aren’t ready for a substantial upgrade. The backlighting is a bit of a gimmick, but does have some programability to it. Doesn’t add much in terms of function other than a visual distraction within one’s peripheral vision. Thankfully… there’s an “OFF” feature.

I transitioned from an small apple magic keyboard, and this keyboard is bigger, the directional keys are located at a greater distance than the directional keys on an apple keyboard, so if you touch type you will notice the difference but it takes a week or so to get used to. There is a smaller version of this keyboard, from Keychron, so you can check that if you want one of the exact dimensions than a apple keyboard. The key travel is great, far better than on others low profile keyboards, so you will notice less stress and pain when you type. The noise is less than a red switch, there is a “clicky” tactile sensation when you type, this is ideal for working from home, but if you need to work on a shared environment, I think is better to buy the “silent” version with the linear switches, because you can hear the typing, even outside of the room the keyboard is located. I have worked with this keyboard on macOS, Windows and Linux, supports 3 bluetooth connections so you can setup the connection and switch without pairing again the device. When the battery is low, a led starts to blink, so you know in advance, you can use it with bluetooth and charge it at the same time with an USB-C cable. The battery lasts at least 3 weeks, I think this is a decent battery life taking into account that I use it more than 8 hours per day.

Wonderful keyboard, unfortunately, the power switch on the side stopped working after 2 months of light use. I usually turn it on and off about 5 times a week since I take it to work and back home. It suddenly snapped and was stuck in the off position. I took it apart and was shocked to see how thin the plastic connector for the switch was. The image attached shows the broken power switch and the intact MacOS/WinOS switch. I’d buy another one, but I’m afraid that this will just happen again

I’ve had some pretty bad luck with keyboards lately. Both my Ducky and Logi keyboards developed unbearable key chatter.

I’ve only just got the Keychron. Initial observations are that aesthetically it’s a pretty good looking keyboard, although not amazing. Gateron brown switches sound really nice and the switches feel really smooth as if they are lubed (are they?).

Backlight is nice, although all modes except for the standard on or off are completely gimmicky and non usable.

Overall – good so far. I’ll update this review in the future, if I run into any issues.
