   This keyboard is, in my opinion, an incredible value. Tri-mode wireless, full hotswap (not just Outemu), RGB, USB passthrough, removable bezels, and the list just goes on and on. The RK Brown switches that this board came with are honestly (shockingly) not bad. They’re a little scratchy, a little wobbly, and a little pingy. However a little lube on the rails and springs and some film and they perform admirably. They are definitely more tactile than Cherry MX Browns, they sound good, and they feel great to type on. The keycaps are basic ABS, slightly thicker than other stock caps I’ve gotten, but nothing special. What is special is the attention to detail on these caps. Most stock caps on cheap keyboards have terrible QC, with blurry legends or rough edges on the bottoms. These caps are perfect, they feel good to type on, the legends are some of the clearest I’ve ever seen for shine through, and they sound nice and solid (they’re still clacky because they’re thin ABS, but they don’t sound cheap). I actually put the RK Browns (lubed and filmed) and the stock keycaps with o-rings on another board I had laying around, and the typing experience is fantastic. Wired performance is exceptional, and according to my testing, has a polling rate of 1000hz, plenty fast for all but the most competitive of gamers. Wireless performance, unfortunately is a different story. My testing shows a polling rate of ~100hz, which is abysmally slow. The 2.4 ghz dongle provides an incredibly stable wireless performance. I haven’t tested the range, but it has had no problem being plugged into the front of my desktop about 2ft away. Using bluetooth, the story gets worse. Bluetooth performance is absolutely horrible. It pairs and connects fine, but even with the keyboard just a few inches away from the computer, I lose keypresses far too often for it to be useable. If you are looking at this keyboard for the bluetooth function, look elsewhere. Its just not good. RGB performance is ok, but not great. Most RGB is actually RGBW, meaning that it can mix white into the colors, giving you the possibility to create lighter shades of color without sacrificing brightness. These chips are true RGB, so the color choices are much more limited. Using the software provided by Royal Kludge (which is sketchy as hell, but I was able to determine is indeed safe) you can customize the RGB lighting to your liking, but only in a static mode. You cannot change the colors of any of the animated modes beyond the default colors, which is very disappointing. Battery life is pretty good if you keep RGB off, but when using RGB it is very short. I can easily get an entire work week off of a charge with RGB off, but I only get about 10 hours of use with RGB on before the lights turn off (this is your signal the battery is low). Stock stabilizers are surprisingly good, mine had no rattle at all right out of the box. I took them out to lube them and noticed there is already lube on them, so I just left them as-is. They’re not perfect, but they’re plenty good enough for me. Finally, the case. This thing is heavy, it feels premium, and it has foam preinstalled in the case AND in between the plate and PCB. This is basically unheard of at this price point. So would I recommend this keyboard? Absolutely. If you’re in the market for TKL mechanical keyboard that is budget conscious and totally usable out of the box, this is the board for you. If you’re in the market for a platform that you can use to build the custom keyboard of your dreams, this is probably the best you can get without spending a LOT more money. Despite its shortcomings, I’m incredibly happy with this purchase.

   DO NOT use the “RK RGB Keyboard” software that is listed on the go-keyboard.com page or Royal Kludges page for this keyboard. At the time of this review, it caused major problems to the keyboard where keys no longer work after opening the software. Trying to reset the keyboard to factory settings in the software breaks the keyboard further by causing more keys to stop working.

   Another issue is that the RGB lighting is very dim. Compared to the old RK87, the brightest setting on this keyboard is about equal to the old RK87’s lowest setting which is very disappointing. It is also disappointing how orange and purple are not preprogrammed into the RGB effects of the keyboard.

   If you don’t care about the software or RGB, the other features of this keyboard: hot swappable switches, USB pass through, excellent build quality, optional frames, Bluetooth + 2.4ghz dongle, and the other features listed on the go-keyboard.com page make this keyboard excellent value for the money.

   However, if you do care about the issues above, I would wait to see if the problems are fixed in the future since this keyboard is very new, otherwise I would look someplace else.

   Such a nice first keyboard for someone trying to get into modding/customizing mechanical keyboards! I’ve had it for a couple days now and was able to replace the keycaps, mod the stabilizers, lube the brown switches it came with (although I’m not sure if it’s pre-lubed already, the switches itself looked dry). It feels very sturdy and high-quality! I haven’t seen any problems or issues with it.

   Purchased this keyboard for the design and the extra port slots for my mouse but when I received the keyboard the USB ports were blocked off. The photo was misleading to show that there were 3 ports.

   I am a programmer and not a gamer. If you are a gamer look elsewhere I was looking for a wireless white RGB mechanical keyboard. I had very limited choices. I tested Logitech RGB, RK87, RK100. I liked the layout of RK96 and RK98 but it does not come in white keys. Pros: 1. Excellent typing experience. Much better than Logitech. It reminded me of my college days. 2. Keys and font on keys look professional. 3. No lag in wireless mode 4. Function key works as a function key without any tweaks(This is a very important feature for me since I use this on the office computer. I cannot install any 3rd party software on it). 5. Excellent value for price. 6. The last adjusted color remains saved in memory. So you can install the software and change the color from your personal laptop and connect it to an office laptop. The color remains the same. 7. Good packaging for it’s price. 8. Came with extra switches and tools. Cons: 1. The software is simple and good but you cannot resize the window. It was super hard to use from my laptop. I ended up connecting it to a bigger monitor to adjust the settings. 2. You cannot get a solid white without installing software. 3. It does not hold a charge when the lights are turned on. Not more than 3 days. 4. Though I like the layout I am missing the “Enter” key at last Area of improvement. 1. Improve battery. 2. Fix the software window size issue. Mention that the software works only in wired mode. 3. Introduce a wireless full-size keyboard in the US market. I have ordered the full-size version RK108 wireless white version from China. I will update the review after testing it. 4. I was able to change color without installing software but the colors were limited. Please have white as an option. 5. I tried 3 other keyboards (brown switch) from the same brand. Each had a different feel and sound. Make it consistent. 6. Sell bare bones and sell keycaps. Verdict: I highly recommend this brand. Excellent keyboard for it’s price.

   This is my first foray into customizing a keyboard–an awesome experience. I decided to use the RK87 as my frame. I was impressed with its price and capabilities. *I have yet to try the Bluetooth/wireless function.* I went with the tactile brown switches because I wanted that bump feedback. I like that it is hot swappable, so if I choose to change my switches in the future, I can. After taking they keyboard out of the package, I was so impressed with its weight, design, and clean look that I just started typing. Keycaps were clean and had a nice feel. However, I wanted to switch out the keycaps, as I want to prevent the symbols from wearing off over time. I purchased the OEM crystal keycaps that are compatible, inspired by another reviewer who had gotten them in the pink. So, I started taking the board apart. I used the tool provided. It was easy to disassemble. ***If you’re a newb and are taking this apart, after you remove the switches and are trying to separate the plate from the case, there is ONE screw underneath one of the sticky feet. If you’re looking at it from the backside, it is the top right foot. Looking at it from the top where the keycaps would be, it’s the top left!*** There is nice foam between the case and the PCB, and also between the PCB and the frame. I did not bother trying to separate the PCB and the frame. My board sounds nice so far, but I’m hoping to make future modifications. Plugging it in / RGB: To test, I plugged this in to my laptop and downloaded the RK87 software (it is free on their site). I had to update it right off the bat. But, it was a lot of fun messing around with the RGB settings. I did come across the problem of some keys going haywire–like the spacebar becoming an “o”–but this was solved by pressing and holding the function or FN key and the spacebar for three seconds (the board turned pink and a couple other colors), which reset the board to its factory settings. I really like the multiple customization options for lighting, so that’s a plus. Overall, out of the box, it’s a great board for someone looking for a simple keyboard–for gaming or otherwise. Or, it’s a great board for a newbie wanting to experiment with customization and modification options. I teach students how to type, so I’m excited to use this with my teacher desktop!
