   TL;DR The RK Royal Kludge Mechanical Keyboard is a solidly built, high quality keyboard, with numerous lighting options, long battery life, extra keys and a few physical features that make this a very nice keyboard. The only issue for me is the backlight capability is geared towards a marketing display or gaming. FULL REVIEW: Contents: Included was the keyboard, a wrist rest, a small set of instructions, a charging cable, USB Wireless FOB, 4 extra keys, and a key removal tool. Look & Feel: The first thing you will notice is that this keyboard is heavy, weighing in at 2 lbs 1.3 oz. It has a very solid feel and seems to be of a very high-quality construction. The version I received was white with blue main keys, red auxiliary keys and white system keys. The color combination works very well and you get used to the key coloring making it easy to locate the different functions. Instructions: The instruction booklet contains about 10 pages of English, but is not very detailed, relying on pictures of functionality to convey the message. If you are a visual learner, you are all set. There is an error in the printed instructions regarding the backlight color settings which I detail below. Overall, the booklet does contain all the information you’ll need. Charging Cable: Long USB 2.0/USB-C to USB-C charging cable about 6 feet long. Does not come with a charging brick/cube, they recommended a 5V 1A wall plug. I’m currently using a 5V 2A plug that I had laying around. Physical Characteristics: The keyboard can be set to use Bluetooth(BT) or using the provided FOB. I don’t have BT capability on my home PC so I did not test that. Using the FOB was a breeze and connects without issue. There is a slide selector on the back of the keyboard labeled “B” to select BT or “G” to select FOB. If connecting using BT, the Function key “Fn” and the keys “Q”, “W” and “E” are used to set the Channel and Begin pairing. The Q, W and E are labeled 1, 2 and 3 on the side facing you as you type. The On/Off selector is located right next to the BT selector and as expected, turns the keyboard on and off. Things I really like about this keyboard are that the key stroke is very nice and has a solid feel and the keyboard doesn’t slide around and is very stable. The magnetic wrist rest is nice and doesn’t slide away from the keyboard during normal use, that was very thoughtful functionality on the design engineers part. A cool feature that you won’t use is the magnetic Wireless FOB storage location. I found that nice, but I probably won’t be lugging this keyboard around when I travel. The volume wheel is another nice-to-have cool feature and when rotated launches a small volume window so you can see the setting. The keyboard height can be adjusted using the dual functionality feet. The first set of feet raised the keyboard about 1/4 inch off the table and the second set lifted it about 1/2 inch. I found that the first set of feet felt more comfortable for me. As I stated, this keyboard feels solid. The keys have a fairly long travel, 1/8″ fully depressed and 1/16″ to engage the key. A light typer may miss keystrokes, but you get used to it very quickly. If you are an old school keyboard user, you’ll appreciate this keyboard. The keys do not have an actual click to the keypress sound, the keypress noise is basically coming from when the key bottoms out on the chassis. So the volume of the key stroke sound will change, based on how hard you actually type. You cannot remain quiet with this keyboard, so remember that if you are in an environment where you will distract others. I can confirm that another person 20 ft away cannot really hear me while using the keyboard, but it is very loud right at the desk. You won’t be typing while on a conference call unless you are muted. The inclusion of extra keys was a nice touch, and I used the provided tool to remove and replace a key just to see how hard it was. The tool has two sides, one to remove the key cover (the letter) and the other side to remove the physical key. The instructions do not tell you how to remove the keys or use the tool, you are on your own. Basically, the tool has a side with two hoops and a side with a set of pincers, best descriptions I could think of. You use the hoop side to loop around both sides of the key you want to remove and just pull up. The pincer side is used to grab the physical key, placing the grips on the left and the right side of the key and gently pulling straight up. Function Keys: The keyboard can be used to launch various Windows Features (Fn and “A”) or Mac Features (Fn and “S”). All twelve Function keys (F1 – F12) have some kind of feature assigned to them, however, a lot of the keys are used for the Media Player. The Function keys are labeled with small symbols denoting what they are used for. Special Keys: There are nine keys with special functionality to provide functionality you find on a 101 key keyboard. These functions are labeled on the side of the key facing you as you type. I find these inconvenient and hard to see. You definitely won’t see them in the dark. These functions are also less used nowadays so I can understand why they were added as special function keys. But if you are a keyboard shortcut kind of person these are for you. Backlighting: While the back lighting options were numerous and fairly easy to access, I was left wanting a true backlight that lit up the key letter itself. This keyboard is useless in low light settings or in the dark. I am not a typist, I usually look at the keys and use four fingers. And even though I know where the keys are, and really don’t have to look, I don’t place my fingers on the “home” keys. For folks who can type without looking at the keys, this is a non-issue for you. Backlight Control Properties: Backlight Brightness 5 levels (Fn and up/down) Backlight Speed 5 levels (Fn and left/right) Backlight Mode (Fn and Print) : 21 different combinations are available, most of which are cool, but have little to no actual real world purpose. The manual incorrectly states that the mode settings are Fn and PrtSc (which is the “Y” key). Backlight Color: (Fn and Delete): 8 (white, RGB, red, yellow, green, blue, cyan, magenta) Backlight Custom Mode: The Custom light mode setting is useful for gaming in the dark, allowing you to set keys that will be illuminated specific to your favorite game. There is a specific section in the instruction booklet outlining how to set your custom lighting mode. Using the Fn key and the “1”, “2” and “3” keys (which are also labeled on the side with the number surrounded by a square symbol) and the Fn and Backspace key. These allow you to enter the custom light mode, select your key set and then save your selections. Battery: I received the keyboard in early February and have only charged it one time. The battery lasts quite a while, easily hitting 30 days between charge sessions. I use the keyboard daily, 4 to 8 hours a day. The battery life and longevity are still under review for me since it is still fairly new. A nice feature is the Battery level indication, which is accessed by depressing the Fn key and the Enter key at the same time. Battery level is lit up in Green and displays under the primary number keys from left to right. The “1” key is the lowest charge level and the “0” key is fully charged. Overall: This is a very good keyboard, but the lack of a true key backlighting function and the higher price makes this keyboard more for aficionados.

   Bestellt habe ich die Tastatur in der Farbe “Blaues Feuer” und sie kam auch gut verpackt bei mir an. Sie ist super verarbeitet und macht einen hochwertigen Eindruck auf mich. Zusätzlich zur Tastatur gibt es noch ein Ladekabel, eine Leiste, um die Hände abzulegen und ein Key-Cap-Remover-Tool. Die Tastenfarben sind kontrastreich und ergeben in Kombination ein schickes Design. Sowohl die Haptik, als auch die Geräusche beim Tippen sind super angenehm und man möchte gar nicht mehr damit aufhören! An der Hinterseite der Tastatur befinden sich 2 USB-A und ein USB-C Slot. Die Leuchtfunktion verleiht ihr nochmal einen besonderen Look und ist ein schöner Effekt bei der Nutzung. Leider ist die Tastatur nicht 100%-tig für die deutsche Sprache geeignet, da die Umlaute und das scharfe S fehlen.
   Trotz allem eine super Tastatur, die ich gerne weiterempfehle!
