   Extremely comfortable membrane keyboard, keys respond to light touch and reduces finger and wrist strain thanks to its low profile. Media keys are a plus for streaming and it’s a really attractive keyboard. Space bar is the most comfortable I’ve ever used. However the paint on the button shells do chip over time, it’s not pretty. Functionally, it’s an extremely durable keyboard cause of the membrane switches are also very protective compared to mechanical switches. Cosmetically, it ages fast.

   I originally reviewed this the first week I owned it, and now that it’s been almost 2 years since I’ve purchased it I’m changing it. Originally I got this keyboard because I couldn’t afford some others I wanted and liked the features, that it was a steel series, and that its colorful of course. The first week I had it I brushed off the software constantly needing updates, and my keyboard stopping to work about once a day. I tried really hard to love it, and I even got “used” to it. I got used to how bulky it feels even. But it’s been such a long time now, the only reason I still have it is because I haven’t had money to replace a keyboard that technically still works…if you restart your computer and unplug and replug the keyboard enough times.Today though it surpassed its normal finicky-ness and it took literally 10 times. This is beyond frustrating and I honestly don’t think Ill buy another Steel Series product again. I’m just so sick and tired of it randomly not working anymore often while doing something important and time sensitive. On a side note, unlock other reviews its physical appearance has held up great, and I was not gentle with it.

   I’m 54 and I’ve been playing games since 1984, so I went through many keyboards. This one is nice but the paint problem takes everything away from this keyboard. I bought this keyboard three months ago and the paint on the keys is coming off. I contacted the customer service at SteelSeries and mention the defect with photos of my keyboard and the details of the degradation. They have sent my request to Mike and one month later nothing, still nothing. No answer, they do not care at all.

   Bought my first one five years ago and its still going strong. Just bought my second to use as backup when this one eventually breaks. Pros- Very low profile keys. Backlight doesn’t shine between buttons, only through the button itself. Quiet. There are a couple cons, but they are pretty small/don’t matter- Weird diagonal arrow keys get in the way sometimes, you learn to avoid them. Software can be a little finicky at times. I went back to Steel Series engine 2 instead of 3 because it wasn’t working %100. Big, you better have a lot of room on your desk. Number lock/Caps lock lights went out after about four years. Buy this keyboard before they discontinue it!

   Love the level of customization. It’s quiet unlike mechanical keyboard, which I’m not really a big fan of. It’s pretty comfortable for long gaming/typing sessions. I love how you can customize led lights for every keys “section” The two usb ports in the back are great touch as well as the side LED lights. Macro keys comes in handy too and the layer buttons makes it easy to switch to different “color setting” that you can setup to your own taste.

   I bought this keyboard last winter as an alternative to the Razer BlackWidow Chroma. I am completely satisfied with the keyboard’s performance thus far. I love the colors! Thus far, I haven’t had any problems with they functionality of the keyboard either. The only problem I have to report is that the paint on my keyboard is chipping. Specifically, the all-important WASD keys are losing some of their black paint. I’m disappointed, because this keyboard is only a few months old and I’ve never seen this happen so quickly. For a keyboard marketed to gamers who take their (War)craft seriously, I’m kind of shocked that it hasn’t withstood my usage.

    I loved the keyboard at first, after having it for a few months I have to agree with another review; the black coating on the keys starts to peel off. So far my A and D keys are losing their black coat so therefore the letters and they’re becoming clear exposing the light behind them that lights up each letter (its just a good thing I touch type opposed to one who looks at the keys)! I take care of my computer equipment, so there is no need for this to happen. I do type quickly, but its a keyboard; its designed exactly for what I’m using it for – I’m just waiting for the rest of the keys to start doing this..and then it will be unsightly (after all I purchased this as I’m sure others have for all the different colors as well as the functions), not only aesthetically unappealing now, but eventually there will be a blinding glare at night – just think bluish white light glare from your entire keyboard! Before the keyboard started to peel I felt it was a pretty decent keyboard for gaming, the keys had a nice tactile feel to them along with nice solid resistance – although a bit noisy. At this point in time I wouldn’t recommend this keyboard for durability reasons or for the noise…mind you I prefer a mechanical kb but this one is noisier than most.

    El mejor teclado de membrana que he tenido. Me gusta la sensación del bajo perfil de las teclas. Las teclas se ven perfectamente claras con la iluminación, comparado con otros teclado retroiluminados que pierden claridad. El material es de muy buena calidad, sobre todo el del cable, el cual es bastante largo. Me gustan las teclas multimedia puesto que suelo usar reproductores sencillos que se manejan en segundo plano y es molesto tener que buscarlo en la barra de windows. Es muy facil personalizar las teclas macro con el software de steelseries, y teniendo cuatro perfiles los cuales se pueden alternar facilmente, se puede cambiar la configuración que tengo de un juego para otro diferente con solo un botón.
    Como se puede esperar es bastante grande debido a su cantidad de teclas especiales, deja de ser un tanto portable. En general mi mayor satisfacción es la sensación de las teclas.

    A large keyboard that looks well-done in terms of aesthetics and functionality with gamers in mind but I cannot say the same when it comes to typing. The keys feel and seem larger than most keyboards (actually all keyboards I have used) and for that reason I found myself tapping a key twice or thrice when typing or in a game. The LED backlight on this keyboard is one of its attractions and not to mention the design or more LEDs on the side of the keyboard along with the STEELSERIES logo. The programmable G keys are well-placed. Pros – Looks sexy, large spacebar, useful user-friendly interface Cons – Large keys, not very responsive *ADVICE* get the Logitech G910 Orion Spark. It’s mechanical and is currently this keyboard’s replacement for me 😀

    BEST KEYBOARD I’VE EVER USED. I’ve never spend a lot of money of key boards . I didn’t think paying more than a couple of grands on a keyboard was worth it. Boy was I wrong. This thing is amazing. The keys feel great. I type essays with it sometimes for fun. I bought it for work and I see an increase in my productivity. The macro keys are just amazing. The steelseries engine is easy to use and works flawlessly. I will highly recommend this to anyone looking for something for work and play. Got got it!!

    Amazing keyboard. Can’t possibly complain for the price. Intelligent design, high quality key caps, great and very customizable back-lighting. Found it very easy to get used to. It is also one of the quietest keyboards I have ever used. The keys sit much lower on this keyboard than any keyboard I’ve used before, making each key easier to press, with a lot less resistance than a usual keyboard. SteelSeries comes through again.

    The only qualm I had is when the installing the software it had to program the keyboard for use–it was unsuccessful the first try, instead completely disabling the keyboard. Had to restart, uninstall and reinstall so it would re-program the keyboard to work again. Successful on second try. No problems since then. Loving the space bar.

    I’ve had this keyboard for a few years. Got it for gaming/general purpose. I don’t remember when exactly I bought it, and I think I got it off Newegg. Though I’d like to leave a review here. At first this keyboard was pretty straight-forward. I was looking for a KB with illuminated keys to replace my Logitech g series. By 2018, I’m sure there are way crazier keyboards, but this was a decent price at the time. The main issue I’ve been having with the Apex is mainly that the keys seem to “stick”. Not like sugar sticky, but like the plastic of the keys has worn down, and if you press a letter key towards the edge of the key, it becomes very hard to press, almost won’t press at all. I have to press the key dead center of the key, which is a bit difficult in high-intensity gaming situations. I’d get a new KB by now but I’m broke. I’m currently using my backup Logitech K120 basic keyboard to type this review, as I am fed up with my Apex keys sticking. I’m about to try this basic keyboard out on a game soon. It’s already way smoother and quieter, albeit still takes a bit of pressure to press the keys. Also, what really prompted me to write a review right now is that the drivers for the Apex are once again being finnicky. Downloaded a new driver a few days ago (it’s 8/13/18 today), worked fine until I boot my PC today and the Apex won’t type. The lights light up, Windows recognizes my hardware, yet keypresses do not make letters happen on the screen. So I got rid of that rubbish SS Engine. I’ve had issues over the time of owning this keyboard as well where the illumination color gets stuck and won’t change. There are 4 savable settings for color configurations. Just avoid frustration and look elsewhere. Or plan on getting at most, 2 good years out of this KB,
