   This keyboard is the perfect option for someone who games, but still needs the full size for other applications. There is hardly anything lacking aesthetically from this keyboard. The bold aircraft grade aluminum casing is extremely tough and durable. Honestly, this keyboard could probably double over as a effective bludgeoning tool in the case of a zombie apocalypse, and still come out working fine. The brown switches are extremely soft and noticeably quieter then my nosier cherry reds. I love corsair, and I love my K95.

   The keyboard itself is wonderful – everything you could ask for in a keyboard. The keys are a lot noiser and tactile than I expected – a huge step up from rubber domes in any case. The only thing is – the seller sent me Cherry MX Reds when I ordered Browns! The label says Cherry MX Brown CH-9000062, but the box clearly says MX Red CH-9000082. Either somebody screwed up, or somebody’s screwing me over. UPDATE: Now that I’ve had about a week with this beast, I’ve come to forgive the wrong keyswitches. Bottoming out on MX Reds is enough tactile feedback for me. It’s simply a dream to use, especially for gaming. Typing is strange at first, but it’s superior to any rubber dome regardless. Reds probably aren’t as loud as Blues or even Browns, but they make a lot more noise than your typical keyboard – even without bottoming out. I never want to use a rubber dome again after owning the Rolls-Royce of keyboards. The lights are beautiful, to complement the already sleek design of Maximum Overkill: Metal Volume Slider, Per-Key RGB Backlights that can be custom-animated, 18 Macros with Complex Macro software included for MOBA goodness. The only way you could make a more valuable keyboard, is if the construction were solid gold. Well done Corsair – I forgive you for shipping the wrong keyswitches. The tramp-stamp logo is kinda stupid though. I’m glad they’re not using it anymore in future products.

   Les macros sont fabuleux, cependant un peu compliqué lorsque c’est la première fois que nous en programmons.
   Pour l’instant, aucun problème de LED ou de comptabilité.

   Le seul point négatif et c’est la raison pour laquelle je lui enlève une étoile, c’est le logiciel utilisé pour le clavier. Il s’agit de Corsair CUE version 1.XX donc si vous avez une souris corsair un peu plus récente, vous allez devoir installer 2 versions de CUE pour faire fonctionne le tout.

   DISCLAIMER: I am writing this review within the first few hours of unboxing the keyboard, after using it to write a review for the mouse I received with it. If anything changes my first impressions, I will update accordingly. INTRO/FIRST LOOK: I bought this keyboard because I’ve been wanting a backlit keyboard for nighttime use, for a long time. Being a gamer on a budget, the keyboard is the last thing I’ve gotten around to splurging on. I’ve never had a true “gaming keyboard” because I thought a keyboard was a keyboard, other than the lights. I’ve never been huge on macros, but also never really considered their usefulness outside of gaming, which is considerable. After playing with the software a bit and using the keyboard for a couple of hours, I see what all the fuss is about with gaming keyboards, specifically ones with mechanical keys. TYPING FEEL: The mechanical keys are AWESOME. I can see how a gamer definitely benefits from mech keys instead of membrane. They’re more responsive, and seem to be capable of spamming as fast as you can. I love the feel of a good keyboard, and the Cherry MX Browns are reminiscent of the old, old, old, keyboards that were insanely loud and clacky, but felt great. This one is on the loud side, but not insanely so. While researching this keyboard and the whole mechanical key craze (I never used to hear that term when shopping for keyboards, maybe it’s just me), I found out that it’s because those old keyboards were the same Cherry MX base switches. I don’t remember the specifics, but for whatever reason membrane keys became more standard during the 90’s and after (probably because they’re quieter and can be more low profile), until Cherry MX Reds came out around 2008 and revitalized mechanicals. I know I don’t like keys that press too easily, so I was pretty sure I didn’t want Red or Blue. Without feeling those, I can say I’m happy with how the Browns feel. *insert Cleveland joke* LIGHTING: When I decided to buy a backlit keyboard, I wasn’t thinking customized lighting effects with the ability to pick a different color for individual keys. But after shopping around a bit and seeing what this one could do, I thought it seemed like a nice bonus. After playing around with it a bit, I think it’s awesome. I might get tired of the “typing ripple” effect and go for a more subtle look later, but I’m having fun playing with effects for now. Right now I have the board color coded in different areas with blue/green/white, WASD and arrow keys highlighted with white, Esc. and others highlighted with red, and then a fast white ripple effect centered where a key is pressed. Basically trying to see what it can do, and how well it does it. Overall I would say the capabilities are impressive, and it executes them well. Animations fade in and out smoothly, sometimes a very faint flicker can be seen when an animation is resetting. One strange thing I have to mention is that 3 keys have “forgotten” which color they were supposed to be temporarily. Eventually, they have all gone back to the right color, but as of this writing, 2 of them are the wrong color again. Minor annoyance, but worth mentioning especially since this is Day 1. I’ve heard past versions of this keyboard have had an issue with any number of lights going out. *Day 2 update: after checking out some user-made profiles, I took a peek at the “advanced” version of the lighting controls. If you click the toggle at the top of the CUE software at any time, there are much more complex options for creating custom color animations, allowing you to create almost anything you can imagine. The capabilities aren’t just “impressive” now, they’re staggering. MACRO/SOFTWARE: I’ve never been a huge macro user, but I have used them a little bit, mostly when I used to play WoW. As mentioned before, I never really considered how useful they can be outside of gaming, and they can be very useful. We don’t have to manually launch programs, or use three whole fingers to execute keystrokes. We’re not savages, we live in a society. Using macros effectively can make you twice as efficient with your machine. Within the last year or so, I’ve gotten pretty deep into sim racing (iRacing, specifically), and I have to launch 4-5 separate apps in order to get going. Now instead of manually launching them all, I have each one bound to a G key. The CUE software makes it easy to create macros, lighting effects, profiles, and link profiles to certain programs. Apparently the software received a “major overhaul” this month, about a week before my purchase. I don’t know what it was like before, but it seems pretty user friendly so far. I was able to set up and play with lighting effects and macros immediately, with almost no learning curve. BUILD QUALITY/DESIGN: I wont be able to comment on durability yet, but the build quality seems top notch. I love the look of the brushed “aircraft” aluminum and the sleek, utilitarian design. It feels extremely solid and substantial when picked up, especially compared to every plastic keyboard I’ve owned. It almost bothers me how the keys seem so tall sitting way up on top of the lighted switches, without any sort of housing to buffer the height. But you don’t notice it when you’re typing, and it makes cleaning in between literally a breeze. With the wrist rest attached, it’s a somewhat large package, but still not that much larger than the Microsoft Wave keyboard it’s replacing. FEATURES: Aside from the software features, the hardware features include the 18 G keys, multimedia keys, wide volume knob (nice touch with the diamond-cut texture), a key to adjust the brightness of the lighting effects, a button to lock the windows key, 3 profile buttons, a Macro Record button, a nice wrist rest that pivots like a flap on a plane wing, and the classic Corsair ship sail logo. The G keys are the main reason I sprung for this board instead of something cheaper. My last couple of keyboards were wireless, and worked fine most of the time, but occasionally would be extremely laggy and unresponsive. Happened a few times per month, often enough that I’m happy to go back to wired periphs (except the headphones… those are staying wireless). VALUE/BOTTOM LINE: This keyboard is certainly not cheap at $170, about 3x more than I’ve ever paid for a keyboard. But if it lasts several years (and I’m confident it will, aside from maybe losing a few lights), it will be worth it for me. The mechanical keys and the ability to choose the responsiveness you want are a great feature. The lighting effects are obvious “cool factor,” the macro capabilities are deep, and the CUE software makes it easy to manage it all. Even while waiting for it to arrive, I assumed it would be too cumbersome to play with the software much, but I was pleasantly surprised with how easy it was. About 5 hours into using this thing I feel like I’ve owned it for weeks. I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because of the price, and because there’s no USB pass-through like previous models. I’ve never had a keyboard with USB pass-through, but I could see myself using it. All in all seems like an excellent gaming keyboard, happy with my purchase. *side note* By the time I finished writing this review, the errant keys had returned to their correct color, so that seems to be a pretty minor bug.

    TL;DR │ If you want the sexiest mechanical keyboard money can buy, this is it. It has almost everything you could wish for: High-end build? Check. A lot of macro keys? Check. LED RGB? Check. Per-key lighting? Check. Per-key macro? Check. Other fancy stuff? Check. High price tag? Triple Check!!! On-board memory? Ehhh… It has “built-in storage drive”; not the “on-board memory” which is synonymous to RAM that is utilized by on-board processors.⁽ⁿ¹⁾ THIS IS THE REASON I RETURNED THIS KEYBOARD. (This is why it is not showing as an “go-keyboard.com Verified Purchase”. Photos for proof.) I’d also like to point out that this product is COMPLETELY different from the non-RGB K95. This has a different hardware, different circuit board, and most of all, different software. This keyboard should (theoretically) not suffer the LED and software problems of the non-RGB version because it uses different LED’s. This is a keyboard review, not a switch review, but I got the Cherry MX Brown switches for those interested. It was perfect. Well, almost perfect. The only thing missing was the RGB lighting. Then came Corsair, with the K95 RGB. My Roccat has been dethroned, literally (it has been demoted as my work keyboard). And just like in a chessboard, that although Roccat is king, the sexy Corsair queen is still more loved. Yes, this keyboard is very sexy. Everything was so great. Until… I discovered that the K95 DOES NOT execute macro and key-strokes on-board. How is this travesty discovered? Through a terrible lag and unresponsiveness. I know the characteristic of this kind of lag because it has happened to EVERY software-executed macro keyboards and mice I have owned since the day of membrane gaming keyboards.⁽ⁿ¹⁾ WHAT I LIKE │ + │ + Premium look and feel. Looks VERY expensive. Brushed metal that can cut like a blade! + The lighting is perfect. LED colors are vivid. Looks surreal in person. + 18 dedicated macro keys. If that is not enough, you can reassign every single key. + New software is easier to use. Control your keyboard with tons of options. + Removable wrist rest. + Full flat back plate (no bezel, switches are visible). + An OCD/OCPD’s dream – extremely easy to clean. It does NOT need Windows to be running to execute them. It has its own processors to do it. What are the benefits of this function? ▶ There will be no lag/delay since it will not be dependent on Windows software. ▶ You can use it anywhere. Even in the lock screen, before “running” Windows. ▶ Keyboard remapping is keyboard dependent, not PC dependent. ▶ Need to change computers? No re-installing of drivers and software required. The K95 RGB and most of Corsair’s hardware only stores profile settings. It saves the profile to the keyboard, but needs Windows to process it and execute commands. This technology is not terribly expensive to not be implemented here. My Roccat keyboard is cheaper than Corsair, and they are imported from Germany. Even my Logitech G700S has that feature. Suddenly, I could not justify the price of this keyboard knowing it does not have appropriate hardware. This is a misleading marketing gimmick. If I just want to save the “settings”, I’d use a dedicated USB flash drive. It shouldn’t even be called an “on-board memory”; rather, it should be called “on-board storage” as it is more apt. – – – – – VERDICT: I sort of recommend this product…? ★★☆☆☆ | 2 stars out of 5. Too expensive and weak for my personal taste. If you prefer looking at your keyboard more than your monitor, then this is the best keyboard you can get. It is by no means a bad keyboard.     ~~ 8/12/2016 EDIT ~~ Today, random keys scattered around the keyboard all lost their red LED’s. I have contacted corsair and they are arranging an RMA. I have to pay for the shipping on my end and I’m not sure if I will receive a refurb or not. Rating adjusted as failure happened randomly after less than a year. 2 stars for now. I WILL RE-RATE LATER WITH THE RMA OUTCOME IN MIND. ~~~EDIT AFTER EXTENSIVE USE~~~ This keyboard held up extremely nicely over the past few months. I do not have any additional cons to list, and maintain my stance on how excellent this keyboard is. CUE software got some additional updates and is even better than it was before, I tried some premade user profiles from corsair’s website and they worked nicely and smoothly. Saves you a lot of time of tinkering with lighting effects and what not. The macro keys are a great feature and I do find myself using them alot, I have assigned two of them to swap between virtual desktops in Windows 10 and some to macro some Cntrl+Number stuff in League of Legends. Please continue reading my earlier review to find out the cons and pros when I first got this. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This keyboard is perfect! Pros: Got a K95 RGB MX BROWN and it works as advertised, all LED’s work perfectly, and the CUE software is now super easy to use! This listing has the NEW version with the revised beautiful logo and not the horrible Corsair Gaming one. Included is a nice textured comfy wrist rest with additional screws for sturdy attachment. G Keys are nicely positioned and work nicely with the CUE software. Cons: One very small issue, it came with a scratch (less than 1mm lol) on the top left side. That’s it. Overall, super worth!

    This would have been the perfect “IT Macro Machine” had the LEDs on the “W” and “Y” not stopped working in 48 hours. I don’t care about the back lighting all that much but if Corsair’s brand new keyboard has issues like this after just two days, I’m not getting a warm fuzzy about the rest of the keyboard. What a let down… EDIT: 20 minutes after posting this, another 2 LEDs are dead (see pic)

    I received this keyboard as a replacement and it was no better than the first. When I buy a $130+ keyboard, I expect everything to work including the backlights. The leds just keep going out. I’ve never seen an led go out on anything before buying this keyboard. I’ve never experienced trouble with corsair products before this, but it’s impossible to deny that there is a quality control issue here. This is not what a $160 back lit keyboard should look like.

    I’ve taken my time posting this review because I wanted to ensure I had time on the keyboard. This is a long, harrowing tale of someone who has owned Razers and Corsairs now so far. It begins like this. I’m sitting and raiding in WoW on my level 100 Windwalker Monk, and I’m pretty much crap on the meters because I’m honestly not that great and my guildies are all great players and I’m not. Well, I go to grab a drink of water, and my hand hits the water bottle weird, and suddenly my K70 goes for a swim it probably wasn’t expecting. I’m freaking out at this point. I know, lots of people spill things on keyboards. But my backup old keyboard (a Blackwidow) had died years ago to who knows what. The K70 seems critical. I pull the keys off with my keycap puller, and press a towel over it to dry it out. Thinking the thing is dead, I figure – well, I’ve wanted one of them fancy RGB ones. Obviously the first RGB you probably think about is either a Ducky Shine, a Chroma, or a Logitech. I was *very* pleased to find that the K95 comes in an RGB now, so I of course ordered that right away. It got there roughly the next day (thanks Prime!). And it was glorious. I think I spent an hour trying to draw various pictures in LEDs with the software. See, you can individually light up and color keys however you want. The colors are all super bright, too. Well, one day my boyfriend is helping me clean, and accidentally spills a bit of water on the keyboard. I came back to… a green keyboard. I don’t even like that shade of green that much, so I go into settings to see if maybe it had reset or something. Nope! Apparently the red died! I’d only had the keyboard a week, and was dreading having to go to a Chroma or something and giving up my glorious red caps (I am just not a clicky kind of girl, okay?) Well, instead I decide to RMA it back for a replacement. go-keyboard.com got me that replacement the very next day! I plugged it in, sent the other one back – no questions asked. We think the spilled water was likely just a coincidence, since it was only a few droplets. It’s now been several months, and still going strong. No burnt LEDs, the color persists extremely well. And yes… this one has now survived a water spill as well. Oh, and the K70 was fine the next morning. It had a few burnt out LEDs from an issue that persisted with early models. So I’d been considering replacing it, anyway 🙂 The outage with it just came at a very weak moment.

    Look: this one is beatiful. Really is. I chose it instead of the razor one. But… I should have waited for the new Asus ROG Claymore keyboard. The corsair is awesome as a fashion manner. But as a keyboard… There are individual and personal aspects that I would not rather get into details, like the fact that I rather use my DAS KEYBOARD MX Blue cherry keys than this brown one, but as I said this is a personal matter. What I can say it that this thing does not have any usb hub on it. Really, Corsair?!? And it occupies either 2 usb 2.0 or one usb 3.0 to work. But the most annoying thing about it and I didn’t read it anywhere else is the size of the keys!!!! Yes, why nobody mentions it?!?!? The keys are smaller than any other normal keyboard and this makes it horrible to use. I constantly keep pressing keys that I don’t want. Horrible as a keyboard. Great as a colorful fashion gimmick. I will try to sell it. I can’t return it because I live outside US and only bought it on a vacation trip. But I would return it if I could.

    Had it for a couple of months now. It would be a great keyboard if it was about $70 cheaper. Many of the cons would be justified if not for the premium price. Pros: -Looks cool. -Works for the most part as it’s supposed to. -Overall outer build quality is good. Feels nice and heavy, and hasn’t broken yet. -MOST advertised features are true and work. -Uses the most popular layout and switch brand, meaning more custom keycap options. Cons: -Lighting is frustrating. One of the big selling points of this board when compared to others is it’s supposedly extremely customizable lighting. What I’ve found is that the “per-key” lighting does not work as it’s supposed to. When you program one or two keys to have their own dynamic lighting, even if you have the other keys around it set to static, they will involuntarily flash and change when the dynamic keys change. My best guess to the cause is something about the wiring on the PCB, and delivering certain amounts of power to certain keys will also pass power to other keys. Cause aside, its still extremely frustrating, as I can’t program a profile with static lighting, save 1-2 keys that flash in the middle. Besides this problem, it also has the simple problem of color accuracy. The white is practically light pink at full brightness, and true white at around half brightness. I would manually color correct it to a true white, but that would make the white at 50% power a light blue. There is no way around it, except to make 2 separate profiles for each brightness level, which is just ridiculous for a $180 keyboard. -Onboard memory is not true onboard memory, although I wouldn’t be carrying around my $180 keyboard to the library. Top review already addressed this, please refer to that one for details. -Macro keys were implemented poorly. It looks like a plastic bar added onto a K70 with 18 keys on it; in fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if that was how they wired it. If you compare the two models, you can see for yourself that the ONLY difference is that plastic bar of keys on the left side. -Keycaps are ABS, not PBT. Usually at around this pricepoint, you’d be getting PBT keycaps. -After literally 2 weeks, the “G8” key’s red light went dim. It’s not completely out, but see the attached pic for default white backlighting with no adjustments. If I want the G8 key to match, I would have to dim ALL the other keys to accommodate the weak red LED, and set the G8 key’s LED to a light pink. -C.U.E software is pretty hard to use, but good once you learn it (although the LEDs themselves might not co-operate). Its currently the most customizable option on the market. I really want to like this keyboard, but can’t. There’s simply too many drawbacks. However, I do also think there are no current options that can completely do everything this keyboard can. The closest competitor, Razer’s Blackwidow Chroma has it’s own drawbacks, despite fixing many of this board’s issues such as the lighting.
